Uproar as minister after minister quits Irish cabinet
Source: BBC

There has been uproar in the Irish parliament after five ministers quit the cabinet inside two days, with a sixth expected to join them.

It was confirmed overnight that four had tendered their resignations, joining Foreign Minister Micheal Martin, who stood down on Tuesday.

The enterprise minister is said to be also planning to resign.

Prime Minister Brian Cowen, faced with a general election this spring, is expected to name a new cabinet.

1. What a mess! At least, since 1980 or so, we've always known who's in charge.

Big business, lobbyists and very wealthy individuals.

Very stable government we've had.

2. There will be problems in Ireland
They took a bail out from IMF against the people's wishes. Now it comes out that in Ireland the churches were instructed not to take pedophiles to court. Just the church court..which moved the priests around and never did anything to bring them to justice. Also taxes paid for the settlements for abused children, not the church. May Ireland one day be free of the Catholic Church and England.

5. Lol, 'free of...England'
What's the matter, not old enough to remember 1922?

The Scotts also fucked around in Ireland, so lets say British instead of just English.

4. No Elephants, I don't quite understand your comment. Do you mean "very stable" ironically or
or do you mean that "big business, lobbyists and very wealthy individuals" actually did provide "stability" (except that they were looting the country and eventually caused this IN-stability)?

I have to guess. I'm not sure what you meant.

3. Here's a sense of what's going on, from another part of the article...
"The Fianna Fail leader promised that budget laws key to the Irish Republic's 85bn-euro (£72bn) international bail-out would be passed before then.

In a setback for Mr Cowen, he added that five vacated cabinet seats would be reassigned to existing ministers.

His Green Party allies had apparently refused to back a reshuffle.

Support for the government has fallen sharply since it agreed to the November bail-out."

Beyond that, I am pretty ignorant about this situation--other than being generally aware that the corporate/bankster looting-followed-by-'austerity' bullshit we've seen here is happening in Ireland, as in Greece, Spain, Iceland and other places (and only Iceland has taken an independent stance).

i'd appreciate any Irish or other knowledgeable comment that would help me understand these developments.

6. I hope Cowen never gets his "disabling" law through.
(Which IS what this is about.)
