Two New Political Parties Formed in Colorado
What if the Pro Lifers win? How will they kill abortion Doctors? (courtesy of Air America)

DENVER Two new political parties have been formed in Colorado, one for voters who oppose abortion and another for those who support gun rights.

Republicans claim the parties were part of a plot to take votes away from the GOP during a crucial election year. Democrats denied they were involved and said they do not know who came up with the plan.

Denver attorney John Sackett qualified the two parties on April 2, getting 10,310 signatures to form the Pro Life Party (search) and 10,296 for the Gun Owners' Rights Party (search), Secretary of State Donetta Davidson (search) said Tuesday.

Sackett did not return phone calls seeking comment.

Julie DeWoody, spokesman for the state Democratic Party, said no officials from her party were behind the effort.

1. Now this is GOOD news!
Both groups are traditionally repugs. I like when they eat their own! :D

2. Where's Roy Moore when you need him?
If he promises to run for President in 2004, I promise to contribute $50 towards his next granite monolith.

12. He is trying to get his law passed through congress
which prevents federal judges from ruling on cases that involve God issues. Shelby and (no surprise) Zell Miller are working with him. Also, I believe in two years he will run for Gov. of Alabama and we will than become the new Taliban state. God help us from Roy Moore.

4. I Helped Circulate Petitions For Both of These Parties
It's my part-time job. I figured that these parties will draw votes away from the GOP.

Plus they paid pretty good per signature......

10. thankfully, the Freepers didn't think of this
If only 300 Freepers had shown up at Nader's Portland rally, he would have qualified for the ballot. Since only about 700 showed up, he didn't get the thousand signatures needed.

16. I Answered an Ad In The Local Paper
I was looking for a part-time job, and my options are somewhat limited due to my back injury. This job lets me set my own hours.

The "rap" was rather simple. First, I asked each person if they were registered to vote in Colorado. If they were, I'd show them the petition, saying that there were two minor parties who wanted the right to nominate candidates to put on the ballot; signing didn't indicate support for either party - it just gave them the opportunity to be recognized.

It must have been a good "rap" - the company I work for collected over 30,000 signatures on both petitions in just five days.

9. Fracturing -- Yep
The guy who wrote "The Great Liberal Crackup" in the 80's followed it with "The Great Conservative Crackup."

11. we should act scared, people....
don't you guys know the best way to encourage this fracture is to sound like this is upsetting...

like "oh crap, this is scary... the conservatives are finally realizing that the Republican Party is becoming just as liberal as the Democratic Party... i fear the day that the conservatives have a strong national party, and it seems that they are finding out how to do it!"

13. I initially thought that this would encourage inbreeding
since they all are likely Repubs anyway.

Would be interesting to find out how many are left (er, remaining?) that aren't in both groups.
