Mexico: U.S. teen specialized in beheadings

MEXICO CITY — Mexican troops captured a 14-year-old U.S. citizen said to have specialized in beheadings as an assassin for one of Mexico's most vicious drug gangs. His pay: $2,500 a killing.

Soldiers detained Edgar Jimenez late Thursday at an airport outside Cuernavaca, 50 miles south of Mexico City, as he prepared to board a flight to Tijuana. Officials said he was accompanied by a sister and was heading to his native San Diego, where his mother lives.

Presented to the news media Friday morning, Jimenez said he had beheaded at least four adversaries of the so-called South Pacific Cartel, a remnant of the Beltran Leyva crime syndicate. The small, mop-haired boy known as El Ponchis, or "The Stoner," said he committed the killings while stoned on marijuana and at the orders of the gang boss in command of the Cuernavaca area. Authorities said he was caught with two cell phones that held photographs of tortured victims.

He's probably Mexican-American. He's bad, so to those who need to avoid bad PR all that matters is is the "American" bit. Those who don't like Mexican-Americans will only see the "Mexican" part of his ethnicity.

If dear ol' Edgar was 30, had gone to good schools, and been nominated for the Nobel Prize in chemistry, all that would matter to the Mexican government is that he was Mexican(-American). "Mexican nominated for Nobel" headlines would obliterate where he got his training and where he worked. Those who don't like Mexican-Americans would say he was lucky to have been in the US without being deported or dropping out of high school because he fell in with drugs and gangs.

Of course, one side is less likely to have lots of supporters saying that we're all equal and things like ethnicity and race are artificial Western bourgeois constructs that divide us and prevent us from seeing our common humanity.

You go between the bones, not through. That being said, yeah, saws help, but a cleaver or machete does the trick just fine for the harder cuts.
