Mitch McConnell predicts tax breaks will be extended for all
Source: courier-journal

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell predicted Thursday that Bush-era income tax cuts will be extended for all Americans, even as the House voted to give the tax break to all but the wealthy.

“I think the issue in the end is going to be how long we extend the current tax rates,” the Kentucky Republican said in an interview with The Courier-Journal.

McConnell's comments came hours before the House voted 234-188 in favor of extended tax breaks only for the middle class and as President Barack Obama told governors he expected partisan differences over the tax cuts would be resolved.

The White House and lawmakers are negotiating privately over extending tax cuts enacted in 2001 and 2003 during the presidency of George W. Bush and scheduled to expire at year's end. White House staff have signaled that Obama could support extending all tax cuts for up to three years.

5. If Obama caves
and capitulates to this latest Republican threat he will be saying he is tired of being president and can't take the pressure anymore. And Democrats who reverse course will be branded as big a liars as Republicans who said, in 2001, we need tax cuts because the economy is so good and in 2010 say the rich need tax cuts because the economy is so bad. Do any of these morons ever check to see the results of the predictions that spew from their mouths?

6. It's not about President Obama "caving", it's about 42 senators obstructing
The House has the votes to pass an extension of Bush tax cuts only for earners who make less than $250K. President Obama said he favors that. It's the 42 Grand Obstructionist Party senators who will get in the way of that. Please quit falling for the republicon line that the President has anything to do with this - it's all about their plan to obstruct obstruct obstruct. The only alternative is to simply let taxes go back up for everyone, and maybe that's what the senate ought to let happen but I believe they're too chicken.

7. You can't blithely disregard Obama's responsibilities as a leader
of the Democratic Party as well as The CEO of the Executive Branch. He sets the tone for what legislation is to be pushed, what deals are to be made, and where the line should be drawn. So far the only thing he has achieved is time after time negotiating against himself in order to appear to be 'bipartisan', while the Rethugs dissolve into uncontrollable peals of laughter before coming back with even more audacious proposals. Obama has not shown himself to be a leader, which is why many even of his own party are not following him. More importantly, he has squandered the tremendous pubic support he had at election. The results haven't been delayed - the beating we took in the past elections are due in no small part to the diminished Democratic presence at the polls. Many of us have given up on him. This can't be laid at the feet of the Senate.

8. Yes, Obama is the leader of his Party. . .
And he's responsible for pushing to have his agenda passed. If it doesn't get passed, that's another story, but he needs to get OFF his skinny ass and PUSH and FIGHT for what he believes in. Although I'm beginning to think he's nothing but a disingenous cynic who isn't willing to put up the effort.

10. If the Democrats, including Obama,
took a page from the Republican game book and fought back they wouldn't have so much control.

As things stand now, they effectively have the WH, the House and the Senate. AND with these cuts due to expire in two years (the rumored "compromise") they'll fuck us again.

9. yeah, well he's the man....or boener's the man.
The man always got his way in the minority, so you can bet they will get their way in the majority of the House and scaled down minority of the Senate. Sad to say. They rule obviously.
