U.S. Finds Evidence Iraq Had Banned Weapons, Telegraph Says
http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000102&sid=a...

Aug. 1 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. has found evidence that Saddam Hussein's government was building weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, London's Daily Telegraph newspaper reported, citing a former United Nations weapons inspector.

David Kay, who is now leading a team of 1,400 American, British and Australian inspectors, told a U.S. Senate committee that people who doubted Hussein had weapons ready to use are in for a surprise, the Telegraph reported.

Kay's comments came at a private hearing in Washington and may ease pressure on U.S. President George W. Bush and U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair to prove Hussein was a threat before U.S. and British forces invaded the nation earlier this year.

Blair said Hussein had weapons ready to use in 45 minutes. More than three months after fighting finished in Iraq, the U.S. and British forces there still haven't revealed evidence to back up that assertion.

1. Today's key words: WAS BUILDING
Iraq "was building". And they were going to be ready for launch in 45 minutes?

They were building dangerous and complex weapons in 45 minutes. Damn those skilled Iraqis. They should start building cars they'd stuff the U.S car industry.

When all of the dust clear, it will be quitely disclosed that this evidence refers to a program that existed pre GW1.

3. I would tend to think
that if Mr. Kay has "found" anything at all worth mentioning, it would've already been announced with great flair and bragging about, "see, the bush cartel was right all along"! But alas, they are waiting to either plant the so-called evidence or will wait until they need to deflect more woes of smirk to show their what "was".

What crap.

For those who don't know what that is, its a pit to collect the liquid waste from the barn. You can smell it a mile away in a light breeze. The odor is exquisite at unplugging a clogged sinus.

What you don't trust is the bush* admin. I don't trust the bush* admin. Liberals need to understand the words we use are important, why do you think the crazies use the word Democrat insrtead of Democratic?

keeping conservatives from winning elections by painting liberals as the "blame America first" crowd. The rest of the world trusting us is important, but it's a trust we can earn back by winning the White House and Congress back.

11. They're calling it the "big impact plan"
Iraq weapons strategy
The Pentagon adopted a new strategy in its search for Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. It is called the "big impact" plan.
The plan calls for gathering and holding on to all the information now being collected about the weapons. Rather than releasing its findings piecemeal, defense officials will release a comprehensive report on the arms, perhaps six months from now.
The goal of the strategy will be to quiet critics of the Bush administration who said claims of Iraq's hidden weapons stockpiles were exaggerated in order to go to war.

17. If we know about it now, we can insure that it will backfire.
While no one atgues that Iraq had WMD programs and perhaps a few WMDS,
the fact remains that much of the intelligence used before the war was exaggerated or outright fabricated.

The fact remains that Iraq had no intention of using the few remaining weapons it possessed as proven by its refusal to do so when its own sovereignty was at risk.

The fact remains that the UN inspectors could have accomplished the same task as the US inspectors, but do to strictly political reasons they weren't given the time. Political reasons are the reason that we played games with our intelligence before the war, and its politcal reasons that this report is being conveniently timed to coincide with the election season.

When will this administration get it? A just war is at its very best is a necessary evil, something to be avoided if at all possible. But this war was neither necessary nor just. The evidence of WMD's months after the fact doesn't change that. And the administration know this. This is why they have to spin and lie. This is why they didn't level with us before the war, they didn't level with us during the war, and they are certainly not going to level with us now.

This is one of the very many reasons why we need a regime change- in America.

of the United States. If "HAD" were the criterion for proof of
accusations, all of us would be in deep shit.

If Iraq "HAD" WMD in the past and discontinued or destroyed them,
which must be the case, because they are nowhere to be found,
and then bits and pieces of the past are resurrected, it means nothing.

26. Oh, it's David Kay
I've heard him say several times that we had the proof of WMD's... right before that evidence was discredited.

He also said that Iraq was definatly up to something because they had an old nuclear reactor site... even though UN inspectors sealed the damn thing, and it's been bombed repeatedly throughout the years.

Might as well quote Richard Perle.

28. Mr. Kay was sitting in the CNN studios during the war's progress .....
And every time someone found some barrels or a truck, he DEMANDED that these proved the existence of Saddam' WMD's ..... they were an absolute certitude in his mind ......

David Kay is NOT on unbiased observer .....

SPEAKING of biased observers: .....

ISNT the Daily Telegraph part and parcel of the Hollinger Digital universe ? ..... of which Richard Perle is directly involved in management ? .....

ISNT Richard Perle a primary mover of the current Iraqi action, due to his prominent role in the Pentagon Defense Board, and his connection to the PNAC/AEI ? .....

I NEVER trust a Perle publication to present an honest and uncolored view of the subject matter: ..... I expect him to color ALL news to curry favor for his own position ....

Promoting David Kay's worldview is a prime example ...

29. "It Was Never About a Smoking Gun," by David Kay
Date: January 19, 2003

The following article by former United Nations weapons inspector David Kay first appeared in The Washington Post January 19. Permission has been granted for distribution and further republication, in English and in translation abroad and in the local press outside the United States.

Below is the byliner:

It Was Never About A Smoking Gun

By David Kay

(David Kay is a senior fellow at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies. In 1991, he served as chief nuclear weapons inspector of UNSCOM, the U.N. Special Commission on Iraq.)

When it comes to the U.N. weapons inspection in Iraq, looking for a smoking gun is a fool's mission. That was true 11 years ago when I led the inspections there. It is no less true today -- even after the seemingly important discovery on Thursday of a dozen empty short-range missile warheads left over from the 1980s.

The only job the inspectors can expect to accomplish is confirming whether Iraq has voluntarily disarmed. That is not a task that need take months more. And last week's cache is irrelevant in answering that question, regardless of the U.N.'s final determination. That's because the answer is already clear: Iraqi is in breach of U.N. demands that it dismantle its weapons of mass destruction.

44. I've been reading up on David Kay....pretty filthy rep
Seems this guy, a "former UN weapons inspector," is "former" because he was coercing Iraqis into giving false witness about Iraq's weapons programs, and was dismissed for violations of ethics. He's also been working with the Bushees and the Reaganites since before the first Gulf War. He was hired by George Herbert to find weapons of mass destruction after the first Gulf War when the president realized his popularity was dropping. Funny that the guy shows up once again in virtually the same situation. This guy is dirty as hell.

45. The operative word is HAD
The fact that the inspectors left in 1998 and the only nuclear weapons parts they found were buried TWELVE years ago is proof that they weren't RECONSTITUTING.

The fact that the only Niger evidence the English cite was from the eighties and 1998 at the latest is proof that they weren't reconstituting.

The fact that chemical weapons become USELESS after a few years puts holes in this theory.

We had inspectors and no fucking fly zones. An imminent threat is not Hussein saying "Wait. Gimme three or four years with NO international interferennce and let me build out in the open and then we'll kill you"
