Yemen charges US-born radical cleric al-Awlaki
The Associated Press
Tuesday, November 2, 2010; 3:44 AM

SAN'A, Yemen -- Yemeni prosecutors have charged in absentia a U.S.-born, al-Qaida linked cleric with plotting to kill foreigners.

It's the first formal legal action by Yemen against Anwar al-Awlaki, and it comes as the country faces pressure to crack down on the terror network following the interception of two mail bombs intercepted in Dubai and Britain last week.

Prosecutors announced the charge against al-Awlaki Tuesday as they opened a trial against another man, Hisham Assem, who has been accused of killing a Frenchman in an Oct. 6 attack at an oil firm. They also charged a third suspect in absentia.

many posters were saying the same thing I've been saying; that under the Constitution people are entitled to due process before some public official gives the order to assassinate them. You confuse saying he's a good guy with saying he's entitled to his rights under the law.

Oh, and a couple weeks ago I heard a guest on an NPR talk show (don't remember which) ticking off all the things Awlaki has done that define him as a terrorist, and virtually every one of them could inarguably be applied to Glenn Beck. Yet I don't see Mr. Obama sending drones around to Mr. Beck's residence.

Just sayin'

edit> misspelled Awlaki

3. You do know that al-Awlaki is a senior al Qaeda member, right?
And surely you are aware that al Qaeda has declared war on us. Before President Obama could put al-Awlaki on the CIA target list he had to first get approval from the US National Security Council. This was not just "some public official" and Obama didn't act on his own as you have characterized.

That's plenty of due process for this man who has joined our deadly enemy in efforts to kill us. And yet we have allowed his father to file a lawsuit to get him removed from the target list. That's fine with me. The Constitution is properly subject to interpretation by our courts in cases like this. If you are right they will reverse the decision of Obama and the NSC. If they don't, you're wrong.

I will make no apology for Glenn Beck, but a more proper comparison would be bin Laden. There are those who believe he doesn't belong on the target list either but I am not one of them.
