Court hears appeal of 2006 murder of French Jew
Source: Associated Press

A Paris court is hearing the appeal of 18 people convicted in the 2006 kidnapping, torture and murder of a young French Jew.

One who's not appealing is Gang leader Youssouf Fofana, who chose not to appeal his conviction and life sentence. The appeal started Monday; it's expected to continue through mid-December.

The case revived worries in France about anti-Semitism, considered an aggravating circumstance in the case, and led to anxiety in France's Jewish community, the largest inwestern Europe.

Ilan Halimi, who was 23 years old, was held captive for more than three weeks.

Too bad France retired the guillotine.

4. Really?
I've never hurt anyone or killed anyone. Hell, haven't been in a fist-fight since high school.

I just have a low tolerance for people who torture and murder.

I'm weird that way.

10. You rarely miss a thread
where you can tout the death penalty.

You're very weird *that* way.

BTW, Bush never personally harmed anything but a frog, yet he loves retribution and death.

As do you.

13. "Weak-sauce"?
Your colloquialism has no meaning in this context.

You shill right-wing memes, most notably, Death Penalty support. You're not very good at it.

14. Right-wing memes?
List them.

I don't view support of the death penalty as right-wing.

Sorry you don't know the saying, google is your friend.

16. Oh, I see.
Riding on Skinner's post.

I understand that some folks who differ from my POV are sincere, but you're not one of those.

You may pretend that rabid pursuit of the DP is a progressive ideal, but you fool no-one that isn't already convinced.

17. Skinner's post?
How do you know I'm not sincere?

Please explain.

Rabid pursuit? More world play.

Well, I already knew that.

But you're not even going to be amusing and try? Too bad.

3. Is their appeals process
similar to ours? I'm wondering if it's the same based on some judicial error or whether they can bring in new testimony and such.

The article is scant on details. It will be interesting to see how it progresses.
