W.Va. gov in tough Senate race sues administration

By TIM HUBER (AP) 15 minutes ago

CHARLESTON, W.Va. Gov. Joe Manchin's aides filed suit Wednesday against Obama administration coal mining policies as the West Virginia Democrat wages a fierce Senate race against a Republican who paints him as a rubber stamp for the president.

Manchin on Wednesday denied any connection between the federal lawsuit and his campaign to finish the remaining two years of the late U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd's term.

The Democratic governor said the suit was already being prepared amid rising concern that U.S. coal policies harm West Virginia's mining economy months before Byrd died in June.

"Over the past year and a half, we have been fighting President Obama's administration's attempts to destroy the coal mining industry," Manchin said at a news conference Wednesday.

1. I can understand this. There are a hugh # of people
who make their living in mining in that state. They need to take advantage of the admin. support of green energy businesses & start building solar panels etc. so all those workers can see an option for them if the mines are stopped.

6. And lots of gulf people make their living drilling/pumping oil. They need
to start looking for service industry jobs. I hear the Rep Gov candidate in CA is looking for a maid.

2. Next time a mine blows up and kills a couple dozen miners
This asshole will come crawling on his hands and knees to the administration to provide some sort of emergency aid.

If it was me I'd tell him to go piss up a rope.

But they're better people than me. They'll provide whatever he asks for.

5. It's called election year politics. Manchin is behind, less than 30
days before elections. One more way to "distance himself" from Obama for the electorate.

4. So Manchin would rather see all of his constituencies die in mining accidents
because of a lack of good regulations that are intended to protect them? As well as protect their environment from ending up with polluted water and raped landscape?

They really need to run that mine owner out of the state so he doesn't have the influence he has.
