Bloomberg visits Philly to endorse Sestak
Source: Philadelphia Inquirer

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a political independent, visited Philadelphia this morning to endorse Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Joe Sestak. At a news conference in the parking lot at Progress Plaza in North Philadelphia, the mayor declared, "A vote for Joe is a vote for leadership, for independence and the results this nation needs."

Sestak said, "I'd like to serve with the same practical businesslike approach as Mayor Bloomberg, and let the political consequences fall where they may."

The two went into the Fresh Grocer for cheesesteaks. Bloomberg asked for hot sauce. What kind of cheese? "Not Swiss," he said, a reference to John Kerry's faux pas in 2004 presidential campaign.

The Sestak camp, facing a tough battle against Republican Pat Toomey, hopes that Bloomberg's reputation for nonideological government will help persuade voters that ex-vice admiral Sestak isn't locked into some liberal mindset.

2. Should be helpful to Sestak
This is a rather important race for the Dems I'd say.

3. Smarmy Toomey has been attempting to portray Joe Sestak as a 'Pelosi & Reed liberal'
but Sestak's ads, which call out Toomey as a Wall Street weasel who pioneered the use of derivatives - nearly destroying the US economy as a result - are more likely to resonate with voters.

8. WOW, my liberal ears really pricked up.
Why do you say that? Don't really know anything about him. I think Bloomberg was the first to loudly and unambiguously counter the political foolishness surrounding Park 51 Community Center.

6. I get the idea of the current President and former President endorsing candidates,
but an out-of-state mayor? Hmm, since when has Bloomberg been a champion of liberalism like how the ex-politicians Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin are champions of conservatism today and endorsers of conservative Republican candidates. I understand that current DNC chairman Howard Dean can go around and throw support for Dem candidates. But Bloomberg? Never imagined that. But this is an interesting story. (PS: I visited NYC and Philadelphia last week. Those cities are awesome.)

7. Bloomberg is running in 2012.
His top aides have been leaving City Hall to move to his private sector company so they can work on a 2012 campaign. In fact Rahm Emanuel's top aide quit recently and went to work for Bloomberg. http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/04/01/another-bloomberg-aide-exits-city-hall/ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/05/rahm-emanuels-top-aide-qu_n_564491.html

9. " current DNC chairman Howard Dean" Did you forget the sarcasm emote or something?

And Giuliani, much less of a household name than Bloomberg, has no problem traveling anywhere to endorse Republicans.

When you Google Bloomberg's name, "Mayor of New York" is by far not the only credential that comes up. That's only his volunteer work.
