No Minister: 90% of web snoop document censored to stop 'premature unnecessary debate'
BEN GRUBB
July 23, 2010

The federal government has censored approximately 90 per cent of a secret document outlining its controversial plans to snoop on Australians' web surfing, obtained under freedom of information (FoI) laws, out of fear the document could cause "premature unnecessary debate".

The government has been consulting with the internet industry over the proposal, which would require ISPs to store certain internet activities of all Australians - regardless of whether they have been suspected of wrongdoing - for law-enforcement agencies to access.

All parties to the consultations have been sworn to secrecy.

Industry sources have claimed that the controversial regime could go as far as collecting the individual web browsing history of every Australian internet user, a claim denied by the spokesman for Attorney-General Robert McClelland....

It seems the rulers of the fair society doesn't want the serfs to see the proposed laws that will control them.

3. Seems more like the other way around....
"Industry sources have claimed that the controversial regime could go as far as collecting the individual web browsing history of every Australian internet user,"

Although, British and Australian society seems to be doing a lot better than American society right now. Maybe this is the way to go.

5. Hope someone from the ASIS reads this -
Let me set something straight and in stone for you guys - the STRATUS feature of flash player 10.1 allows users to connect peer to peer / peer to cloud without going via the sever - along with native sockets - that means that all they will be able to collect is the connection address - TEMPORARY - of connections. These connections can then pass any information they want to (can not be used for file sharing) this means that the governments snooping will come to all about .............hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm lets see ........NOTHING.

Makes me laugh - as soon as they realise they need to police the net (twenty years late) they come up with a plan to police something that wont even exist in two years. The only way they will be able to police this is if they effectively place recording software on every single page being viewed by every single person - in other words a key logger on everyones computer - NOT ON THE SERVER - ....

Hope I dont get too many PM's from ASIO snoops for this post.
