BP sued for burning turtles alive

Animal welfare groups are suing BP for burning endangered sea turtles and are asking a US court to stop the oil giant's "controlled burns" on the Gulf of Mexico spill.

The lawsuit filed on Wednesday says BP is violating the Endangered Species Act and other laws with their "controlled burns" in the Gulf of Mexico.

The complainants, Animal Welfare Institute (AWI), Centre for Biological Diversity, Turtle Island Restoration Network and Animal Legal Defence Fund, have asked the federal court for a temporary restraining order to stop all burning activities "until ... mechanisms are implemented that will prevent any additional sea turtles from being burned alive."

The groups said BP should remove all turtles from the oil gathered for a controlled burn before it is set on fire.

What are turtles doing in the oil, they can dive cant they? I thought they had more brains than their idiot cousins the dinosaurs.

If it is practical sure save as many turtles as possible, but if it becomes a choice between letting thousands of barrels of oil drift around the gulf and poison and contaminate everything and burning turtles...

Sometimes there are no good options - only various degrees of bad.

You need a high concentration to make it burn so they have to collect it first to get that concentration. Sea turtles are hardly as slow as their landliving relatives so they should be able to dodge the sweeps, I doubt there is a bottom in them.

It's not really a matter of moles, it's more about the problem of many people having incredibly different perspectives.

That drag boom will gather oil, turtles, random plastic, etc.

28. OIL IS BURRIED UNDER THE BEACHES - VIDEO PROOF

What about when the turles start to nest, digging into the sand to find globs of tar that are burried under the sand. I have heard that the clean up crews are only cleaning what is visible.
