Five US men convicted of Pakistan 'terror plot'
Source: bbc

Five Americans have each been sentenced to 10 years in jail by a court in Pakistan after being found guilty of terrorism charges, prosecutors say.

The five men - aged between 19 and 25 - were arrested in the north-eastern city of Sargodha in December.

They were charged with conspiring to commit terrorist attacks in Pakistan and funding banned jihadist groups.
...
They also accused the US FBI and Pakistani police of torturing them and trying to frame them. Officials have denied the accusations.

1. They're going to love the Hog Farm
The prison in Rawalpindi is an open compound with open-air concrete cubicles, spaced on packed dirt. The prisoners sleep on concrete pads, exposed to the weather. It's no country club.

2. "They were also fined a total of $820."
That tells the story right there. Next stop, LHC, where they'll get their sentences knocked down to time served.

Pakistan (Reuters) - Five American students were sentenced on Thursday to 10 years in jail for contacting militants online and plotting attacks by a court in Pakistan, fighting its own battle with Islamist radicals.

The students, in their 20s, were detained in December in Pakistan's central city of Sargodha, 190 km (120 miles) southeast of Islamabad.

Deputy Prosecutor Rana Bakhtiar said the men were convicted on two counts each, with one carrying a 10-year sentence and the other carrying five years, to be served concurrently. They were also fined a total of 70,000 rupees ($820).

"Both these sentences will begin concurrently and in practice they will spend 10 years in jail. We will appeal in the high court to enhance the sentence," Bakhtiar said.

7. 5 Americans convicted of terror charges in Pakistan
Source: McClatchy

By Saeed Shah | McClatchy Newspapers

KABUL, Afghanistan — A Pakistani court convicted five young American Muslim men of terrorism charges Thursday and sentenced each to 10 years in jail, but the defendants said they'd been tortured and framed by local police.

The court found the men, all from the Washington area, guilty of plotting attacks in Pakistan and providing money to a terrorist organization, lawyers said.

The case spotlighted the radicalization of American Muslims and Pakistan's drawing power to would-be jihadists from around the world. The convictions amounted to an official warning to jihadi tourists to stay away.

The five men, none of whom had a criminal record, were accused of contacting an extremist linked to al Qaida over the Internet, who lured them to Pakistan.
