WASHINGTON, June 22 (Reuters) - A senior media aide to the top U.S. general in Afghanistan has resigned after a magazine article portrayed the military commander and his team making critical comments about the Obama administration, U.S. defense officials said on Tuesday.

Duncan Boothby had been a close advisor to McChrystal and frequently traveled with him.

doesn't seem likely, but how many Duncan Boothby's can there be?

It's not the first time in recent years a theater has commandeered domestic space or some analogue thereof. Duncan Boothby, a gifted young actor who performed both at UNC and Manbites Dog Theater during the last decade, convinced a resident on Chapel Hill's Lakeshore Drive to let him produce Athol Fugard's South African drama, Statements After an Arrest Under the Immorality Act, in a house overlooking Eastwood Lake in the mid-1990s. Shakespeare & Originals staged their memorable Chekhov trilogy, Life, Love, Cows, on and around farm buildings at Pittsboro's Rock Rest Amphitheater. For that matter, another Durham theater group aroused a bit too much interest in their subterranean, basement production last year: The fire marshal closed their show during its initial weekend.

14. apparently so.
"Duncan Boothby, the civilian Pentagon consultant who brokered Gen. Stanley McChrystal's interview with Rolling Stone, has resigned, according to two officials.

Boothby, a one-time stage actor, has served as an image consultant to several of the Pentagon's top generals, including Gen. David Petraeus, now of Central Command, when Petraeus was attempting to sell the Iraq "surge" to the American people."

17. Not the aide's fault. McChrystal had a choice of saying nothing derogatory or simply tell the
reporter "off the record" and have it on tape.

24. This actually makes it easier for Obama to fire him, since he can hardly
portray himself as the victim when he goes around firing subordinates himself.

The general seems to be a fucking idjit.

26. Love the Lead Paragraph!!!
'How'd I get screwed into going to this dinner?" demands Gen. Stanley McChrystal. It's a Thursday night in mid-April, and the commander of all U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan is sitting in a four-star suite at the Hôtel Westminster in Paris. He's in France to sell his new war strategy to our NATO allies – to keep up the fiction, in essence, that we actually have allies. Since McChrystal took over a year ago, the Afghan war has become the exclusive property of the United States. Opposition to the war has already toppled the Dutch government, forced the resignation of Germany's president and sparked both Canada and the Netherlands to announce the withdrawal of their 4,500 troops. McChrystal is in Paris to keep the French, who have lost more than 40 soldiers in Afghanistan, from going all wobbly on him.
