RNC loses top fundraiser

In another serious blow to the Republican National Committee, one of its top fundraisers — and its few remaining connections to the traditional GOP donor base — has resigned a senior, unpaid position.

Former Ambassador Sam Fox, a top supporter of George W. Bush who was one of the co-chairmen of the Republican Regents — the RNC's top-level fundraising board — has left the post, two Republican sources said.

Fox, a Missouri businessman who was Bush's ambassador to Belgium, was one of the RNC's few remaining connections to the deep-pocketed Republican establishment and was viewed as the heaviest hitter among its fundraisers.

But Fox was "deeply troubled by the pattern of self-inflicted wounds and missteps," another major Republican fundraiser told me today, and had "lost confidence" in Steele.

7. They are destroying themselves?
I am trying to think of what has happened recently to push this guy over the edge. Nothing huge comes to mind. Seriously. If this guy has been a supporter up to recently, he must have endured alot. This is not exactly the first week that the Republican party has done something stupid. One interesting thought is that for each guy who can't take it anymore and quits, there must be a whole bunch more cringing each day in his life as a Republican. Perhaps the rest have become teabaggers.

To remove Steele. They aren't going to stay away from the GOP as the election approaches.

18. You nailed it.
I heard on MSNBC that Steele's support comes from the low end contributors to the party. The fat-cats don't like Steele but as he has more support where it ultimately counts he won't being going anywhere anytime soon.

9. Fox was the money behind the Swift Boat assholes in 2004. Rove's new 527 awaits him, no doubt.
Edited on Mon Apr-05-10 12:28 PM by ClarkUSA
Unfortunately, he'll still be raising money for Republicans.

13. If this persists . . .
Democratic prospects look better and better for November. Just a few years ago, it was the Democrats looking at campaign money shortfalls, and recruiting self-funding candidates. Then along came chairman Howard Dean. Now it's Republicans in bad straits financially, and if they can't outspend Democrats at least 2-1, and preferably 3-1, they're in big trouble on a level playing field. So they're looking to run candidates who don't need cash from the national party.

Thank you to national chairmen Howard Dean and Michael Steele! Between the two of you, you've been able to put the Democrats in a position to run the country for years to come.
