Bush says 'world a better place' because of Iraq war
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/afp/20040318/ts_alt_afp/us_iraq_vote_040318184209&e=2

Puke alert....

<snip>
"The world is better off and the American people are more secure" because of the invasion, Bush told US troops who have served in Iraq and their families in a speech to mark the anniversary.

Without mentioning the failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, Bush insisted he had used the best intelligence available on the Iraqi threat before ordering the invasion on March 20 last year.

"In Iraq, my administration looked at the intelligence information and we saw a threat. Members of Congress looked at the intelligence and they saw a threat. The United Nations (news - web sites) Security Council looked at the intelligence and it saw a threat.

"I had a choice to make: either to take the word of a madman or take such threats seriously and defend America. Faced with that choice, I will defend America every time."

1. Bush is a liar
Funny, the world does not think that it is better off.

I guess Bush knows better than the world what is good for it.

This statement alone is full of lies. Someone should pound him with tv commercials focusing on the lies of BUSH!

4. We could have disarmed Saddam without deaths!
The point is not whether the world is better off without Saddam, it's that we picked the worst strategy possible! I wish Kerry et. al. would stand up and say this. We could have achieved the same goal without war, without deaths, without innocent suffering. Once we had clearly established there were no WMDs (which would have taken maybe another 2 weeks) we could have easily gotten rid of the fangless Saddam with diplomatic pressure, probably by offering him a flight to Syria. And no one would have died! The world is not better off when thousands have died unnecessarily!

14. Is Iraq really better off? Maybe that premise should be questioned.
The Neocons seem to say they haven't yet found the weapons of mass destruction.

We haven't yet determined whether Iraq is heading towards democracy or Hellish civil war?

It's his mantra and the more he says it, the more he believes it. I'm so sick of his limited talking points. Kerry should latch on to this one and hammer him, imo.

11. Yup--that is the revision they have latched on to
and the talking point meme. He will say it over and over--Rumfeld will help and say it was worth it and so will Powell, over and over. The Republicans, in the House, will all stand up and say the same meme over and over and over--and they all desperately hope that people will forget that Bush lied numerous times about Iraq WMD, invaded and murdered ten thousand innocent people--they think if they say it over and over and over and over--it will become the truth, I have no respect whatsoever for any person that goes along with this. Bush lied--do not let anyone forget it. He took this country to war on lies--war is not a game where he wears a costume and visits military bases. War is not romantic--and troops are not mythological beings who are automatically "brave" He murdered ten thousand human beings and did not care . He lied. Never forget it and never let anyone get away with anything he has manufactured to cover up his crimes. Do not let anyone say otherwise.

Do NOT let it happen this time.

15. His "world of the elite" is better off
They live in gated communities. They have armored limousines. They drive exotic cars, when they feel its safe. Most of them remain relatively low key.

Their Lear jets whisk them away to St Bart's St. Kitt's and other exotic places.

Their children attend private finishing schools and later attend Harvard, Yale, Brown etc.

They go from government jobs at the DOD, Justice or positions in the executive branch , directly to private industry. (and sometimes vice versa)

Plastic surgeons are at their beck and call if the jowels sag or they need botox here or there.

The only minorities they deal with are people economically similar who know their place.

They are generally beautiful sophisticated people.

Their children will never know the draft, poverty or want of any kind, the best medical care is their right.

Someday at the hands of a mob they may be ripped to pieces.

say the world was a better place. The 9-11 attack was a terrible thing. The part people in the US don't seem to understand is how insignificant a thing it was compared with what other countries have endured. The US lost something like 300-400,000 in WWII. France lost something like 3.5 million, Russia lost from 20-30 million. All of Europe was devastated in WWI and WWII while we were unharmed here, how can we expect much sympathy from those countries.

57. Yet we did get sympathy from those countries after 9/11.
I was distressed by Americans saying "this shouldn't happen here"--as if such a crime should happen anywhere.

But the graphic horror caused a wave of sympathy, even from people whose own countries have seen worse. If that energy had been directed to a real effort to fight terrorism, some good might have been accomplished. But Afghanistan was invaded, Iraq was invaded, and many of those countries have turned against us. Or against Bush, at least.
