U.S., Spanish officials trade barbs over Iraq war, terrorism fight
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/world/iraq/20040317-1403-us-spain.html

WASHINGTON – U.S. and Spanish officials traded barbs Wednesday, rekindling a trans-Atlantic disagreement over the invasion of Iraq and the best way to fight terrorism.

House Speaker Rep. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., said Spain was "a nation who succumbed ... to threats of terrorism, changed their government."

Added GOP Rep. Henry Hyde of Illinois, chairman of the House International Relations Committee: "The vote in Spain was a great victory for al-Qaeda."

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas…….."If we follow the example of the new Spanish government and we accept failure in Iraq and permit the victory of the terrorists there, there will be no counting the number of people around the world who will suffer the consequences," he said.

The International Herald Tribune recently quoted him <Zapatero> as saying, "We're aligning ourselves with Kerry. Our allegiance will be for peace, against war, no more deaths for oil, and for a dialogue between the government of Spain and the new Kerry administration."

Hopefully, come November, we also will be changing our government…

1. there was no Al-QAEDA terrorism in Iraq before US invasion
only after has it become a magnet for Al-Qaeda. How convenient to now say Iraq is part and parcel to the "war on terrorism"

Only because all you unethical and immoral scumbags made it so.

Better to fight them there than here you say? Tell it to the innocent Iraqis you have killed and there families. Oh I forgot, you're too busy telling them you come in peace and only have altrusitic reasons for being there and want to bring freedom and democracy to there land.

4. None in Spain either before the Iraq invasion and occupation
Come to think of it there was none in the USA before the first invasion of Iraq and occupation of Saudi Arabia that followed by our military. What a coincidence?

2. Och... An elected PP rep wonders if Zapatero or Bin Laden will be PM...
That's Carlos Mantilla, just elected in the Congreso (eq. House) for the province (eq. county) of Pontevedra. Article in Spanish here.

Different country, same rightwingers, same sh*t.

3. Hastert and Hyde - What are these zeros doing in Illinois?
I will not be satisfied until there is a Democrat in every political office in Illinois. Hah!
