The FBI is expected to issue a final report today on its six-year investigation of the 2001 anthrax letter attacks, according to the attorney representing former Frederick resident Bruce Ivins, a Fort Detrick scientist accused of planning and carrying out the attacks that killed five people and sickened 17.

“The U.S. Attorney called me and said they would close the case today,” said Rockville attorney Paul Kemp.

The report will close an investigation in which Ivins, a senior researcher at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, was eventually identified as the only person suspected of mailing the deadly letters to the offices of U.S. senators and media companies.

.............

Ivins died from an apparent suicide in July 2008, one week before the FBI announced their findings. He had swallowed enough Tylenol to poison himself before any charges were filed.

1. Let me guess, "Bruce Ivins did it, he acted alone, and now he's dead. Case closed, move on." Right?
Edited on Fri Feb-19-10 12:31 PM by ck4829
Never mind the fact that the white supremacist "Camel Club" gang at the Ft. Detrick harassed a Muslim scientist at the facility before this attack even happened, and was most likely behind a letter to the FBI warning that this scientist was planning on doing something a week before the anthrax attacks happened and that one of these guys was recorded inside the facility 6 months after he quit working at Ft. Detrick.

Nope, just a lone wolf who died before he could be investigated. Like that's never happened before.

2. Well, at least he didn't commit suicide by shooting himself in the head.
Twice.

5. Let's see . . .
The victims were a couple of Post Office carriers/workers, the targets were Democratic Senators and "librul" media personalities. And the Bush administration pursued them with all the vigor of a cicada about to begin its 17-year hibernation. Oh yeah, the Bush administration kept us safe from terrorist attacks. Tell that one again; it's always good for a laugh. Unless you care about the country, then not so funny. I'll bet it would be an applause line at the Xtreme CPAC conference!

7. The fact that Bruce Ivins did not have access the to the equipment or the ......
.... knowledge to turn the anthrax into weapons grade that would be volatile (disperse into the air
is just swept under the rug.

Add Ivins to Michael Connell, Dr Kelly, Paul Wellstone, and Ray Lemme who help protect bush & Cheney
by being dead.

With in 2 weeks by DNA the government knew that anthrax came from Ft. Detrick, MD but still they
trotted out Powell in front of the U.N. to scare us about Iraq and anthrax.

8. Add to that, all the smears on him put out by FBI and dutifully reprinted
Edited on Fri Feb-19-10 04:13 PM by EFerrari
by the WaHo and Authorized Propaganda. That he was a loner: not. That he was a stalker: not. That he left work early to mail the first batch: physically impossible. That the science would resolve all the questions: it didn't. That his therapist had been threatened by him and outed him as a violent psycho: Not. She was a wet drunk, was not a therapist and there was no basis to be found for her claims -- fed to her by FBI handlers.

WHAT A FUCKING FARCE.

ETA: I forgot a bunch of stuff. Full of Bull Inc also said he didn't report a spill in his lab: not. He reported it right away to his supervisor -- and, the spill was not HIS. Add to all of this, no scientist who is not working for Full Blown Inertia agrees with their investigation of the science. And neither do Dr. Ivins' former colleagues -- who were pretty much threatened into silence.

BOTH of his memorials were PACKED. That is how much his co-workers and friends and neigbors bought into this UTTER BULLSHIT.

WHAT A FUCKING FARCE

12. He never was in a position to make or get the anthrax that was used in ...
... in the attacks. A PhD in science would use tylenol to kill himself? That is
a farce on any grounds ..... 2 to 3 days of gut churning pain vs a bullet or
cyanide ..... quick and painless.

Cheney really is an evil man ..... bush was just the go along stooge.

11. Should be investigated by an outside-of-government party.
Clearly, politics used attributes of this case, government should recuse itself and pay for another party to finish it.

14. Looks like Rush Holt is still unpersuaded
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/20/us/20anthrax.html

Whether the voluminous documentation will convince skeptics about Dr. Ivins’s guilt was uncertain on Friday. Representative Rush D. Holt, a New Jersey Democrat and a physicist who has sharply criticized the bureau’s work, said the case should not have been closed.

“Arbitrarily closing the case on a Friday afternoon should not mean the end of this investigation,” Mr. Holt said, noting that the National Academy of Sciences was still studying the F.B.I.’s scientific work. He said the F.B.I. report laid out “barely a circumstantial case” that “would not, I think, stand up in court.”

I'm with Holt on this.

18. U.S. Closes Case in Anthrax Attacks
...According to the summary, after years of investigation and some missteps, in the summer of 2008, prosecutors in the District of Columbia U.S. attorney's office were preparing to seek a grand-jury indictment charging Mr. Ivins with using a weapon of mass destruction.

"Aware of the FBI investigation and the prospect of being indicted, Dr. Ivins took an overdose of over-the-counter medications on or about July 26, 2008, and died on July 29, 2008. Administrative and investigative steps taken in the past year toward closure of the investigation confirm the conclusion that Dr. Ivins perpetrated the anthrax letter attacks," the investigative summary reads.

19. Not closed
Sorry but it's not a closed case until the People say it's a closed case. Someday the truth will come out- hopefully it won't be after all the treasonous people are dead- but it probablly will be.
