Tea Party activist: Hang Patty Murray
Source: MSNBC

From NBC's Mark Murray
As the Republican Party and establishment conservative groups court and co-opt the Tea Party's message and grassroots energy, one risk is that they get identified with some of the Tea Party's more impolitic statements and protests.

Here's one example from KLEW-TV in Idaho that a Democrat forwarded to First Read:

They say it's all about traditional values and pushing back against the government.

And there were some strong words spoken at Saturday's Tea Party in Asotin .

"How many of you have watched the movie Lonesome Dove?," asked one speaker from the podium. "What happened to Jake when he ran with the wrong crowd? What happened to Jake when he ran with the wrong crowd. He got hung. And that's what I want to do with Patty Murray."

21. This is what I was referring to:
"As the Republican Party and establishment conservative groups court and co-opt the Tea Party's message and grassroots energy, one risk is that they get identified with some of the Tea Party's more impolitic statements and protests."

Plus what the "tea party" claims has only a tenuous relationship to reality anyway.

7. It's a great strategy for getting a visit from the FBI or Secret Serivce
making violent threats against an elected official is a no no. And this sounds way more serious than the poor guy who said he'd like to punch Poppy Bush in the nose and got prosecuted for that.

5. I think it was Noam Chomsky who made the point that...
Edited on Wed Feb-17-10 04:57 PM by Iowa
...these people have real grievances but they are misdirecting their anger (or something like that). So while those of us who are progressives tend to view them as idiots (I know I do), we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that we face a common enemy - the politicians from both parties and the plutocrats who own them. Those are the real culprits... the war mongers, the corporate welfare pigs, and the corrupt politicians who are dismantling the middle class, trashing our civil liberties, and destroying our way of life.

11. They were just as nasty when they supported the policies of corporate welfare, tax breaks and other
benefits for the rich, violation of civil rights, etc., as they are now, when they supposedly oppose those things.

And just as brainwashed.

I feel no kinship with them. Nor do I want any.

18. Chomsky wasn't talking about kinship...
He was simply making the point that the left really has no effective mechanism in place to engage them or to provide an alternative narrative. So they're easily co-opted by the right, when it would actually be in their economic self-interest to align with the left.

If Obama doesn't squash them he is doomed, the Democrats are doomed, and so is this nation state. Obama will pretend he's a money elite, however, as per typical.

46. that's because the overwhelming majority of them
cannot be engaged by the left no matter what "mechanism" they use. period. and they view economics in a way that simply is not open to persuasion. What the fuck makes Chomsky think that they can be engaged or persuaded by progressives? That they're screwed by corporate interests? Well, that's not what they believe. His take on this is not only ridiculous it's ignorant and stupid. I know, I know, heresy to question him.

8. Typical teabagger "moran" moment: "He got hung."
So, Jake was "hung" according to the teabagger. Maybe he was "hung" and maybe the teabagger knows. I have no idea how large or small Jake's package was. But in the end, Jake was hanged. I doubt that few teabaggers know the difference.

19. Fascists in disguise
It is time to identify these people and their tactics for what they are - fascists. They do not support democracy, or the constitution, or equal rights or even a limited government role. What they really support is a take over of the government so they can impose their retrograde, ignorant and delusional views on everyone else. And then execute those who don't agree with them. They are dangerous and a threat to the country. It is time they were called out for what they are - neo fascists. I know they wouldn't call themselves that, but then they do not live in a reality based, educated world.

She's my Senator, and a wonderful human being, and this makes me extremely angry. I think people making these sort of 'threats' need to have their butts hauled into jail. The Tea Party is made up of America's dumbest, most vile and craziest - the dregs. I think we should dump them all overboard.

24. What I find almost as disturbing as the statement made by the teabagger
Edited on Wed Feb-17-10 07:26 PM by me b zola
...was the local news coverage of it. It was like, "a tea party speaker had some tough words..." then they show the video of the teabagger, then, and here's where the next tea party will be held".

The local media seems complicit in spreading the call to violence.

32. Typical for Asotin
Not exactly the end of the road but you can see it from there. This backwater hick town is a great place to get away from people of color and tell jokes about the local tribe. How do I know? I used to live just up the road in Clarkston.

This is not funny, this is not hyperbole, this is not patriotic, this is hate speech.
