Frisbee inventor Walter Frederick Morrison dies aged 90
Source: BBC News

The man who invented the Frisbee, one of the world's most popular toys, has died at his home in Utah aged 90.

Walter Frederick Morrison conceived and developed his aerodynamic plastic disc in the 1950s, and hundreds of millions have been sold worldwide since.

Frisbee historian Phil Kennedy said Mr Morrison and his future wife, Lu, got the idea from playing with a metal cake pan on the beach in California.

He originally called it the Pluto Platter and sold them at local fairs.

4. RIP, Mr Morrison.........
George Carlin died and, due to his Frisbeetarian beliefs, his soul is likely stuck on a roof.

Maybe,he has some company now....

5. R.I.P.
At first I had thought that he had already died as I recall stuff in the news not long ago about the frisbee and a death. Then I realized what I had recalled was when one of the Wham-O co-founders (Richard Kerr) had died in 2008 (Wham-O having marketed the frisbee and hoola-hoop).

Interesting how the simplest things can be the most fun. No video game console would endure as long.

7. I'm a disc golf enthusiast....
I don't care for regular golf, but I love to play disc golf. I even mounted an effort to get a disc golf course built here at the lake where I live. Even though I pay (dearly) for unlimited golf priviledges at our PGA rated golf course, I could never get into the sport. I have played eight games
of golf in my life, even managed a hole-in-one, but, I just can't get into it.
But disc golf is a different matter. I love the game and the exercise. Unfortunately, there really isn't much competition for me here. Once our disc golf course was built, I played a lot. I have been tossing frisbees since I was a child. Just like real golf, there is an art to throwing a Frisbee a long way, in a straight line!

So, I owe this guy a lot of gratitude for his little invention. RIP friend, and thanks!

20. I used to play with friends at the campus of University of Houston.
We'd play after midnight, when it was cooler and have to carry flashlights in case we lost one, or put glow in the dark tape on them. Our "holes" were the various sculptures and fountains on campus, so if you have any such schools around, you might try that for variety :)

Rest in peace (or on the roof) Mr. Morrison
What a great toy-invention for generations!

21. Don't have to!
I got a course built right here at the lake, about 50 miles north of Dallas. I contacted a pro out of Austin and paid for him to drive up and design the course. It is awesome, and he said it was one of his best! The property ownwers association at the lake owns the property and I got them to pay for the chain nets (holes) and signage for the course. DUring the spring, I'll play 18 holes a day. I bought about forty discs off of Ebay.... putters, midrangers, and drivers.

22. Okay, I'm sorry as I must have misread your post.
I thought that you were tired of the course you had.

You're probably a helluva lot better at it than I ever was, but it's still fun, nonetheless :D

12. My first Frisbee
Landed in the Potomac River. Now it's buried under silt and mud to be eventually dug out of rock thousands of years from now. I hope they give it back.

15. My first name was on it.
What more do they need?

*My sister had an exact duplicate, so our names were written on the undersides. The top part was printed to look like a flying saucer (UFO). The first model out.

The amazing Frisbee catching dogs are just that: Amazing. And hey, that toy took up much of my free time in high school parking lot. :)

My sis once had a 120 Lb. Lab mix that could catch 'em on the fly. He even one a couple ribbons at local competitions. Trouble is, he'd take the discs and chew them to shreds.
