Arab-American Group wants Bush campaign ad changed
Edited on Fri Mar-12-04 04:37 PM by frankzappa
Oh, boy!! Did * pull another boner with a campaign ad or what!!

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/nm/20040312/pl_nm/campaign_bush_arabs_dc&e=4

(snip)
"The new Bush ad plays into a negative stereotype and it's damaging," said James Zogby, president of the Washington-based Arab American Institute and a member of the Democratic party's National Committee.

"It makes a reference to terror and terrorists while flashing a picture of a Middle Eastern-appearing male," the institute's site said.

. . .

"This ad undercuts the message the president issued to the nation after September 11 and negatively stereotypes Arabs," Zogby is quoted as saying on the site. "By using an unidentifiable, but Arab-looking young male while the word 'terrorist' is heard, the message is unmistakable and regrettable. It can only create fear and suspicion and should be changed immediately."

Nobody who considers voting for w* would think of this as wrong.

30. I read that a large percentage of American Muslims supported W in 2000.
So, just like his proposed constitutional amendment, this effort to play to his supposed base just alienated a whole bunch of his supporters.

W can't win with just his base. He has to have the support of swing voters and swing states.

This ad campaign is totally off-base. I'm so pleased!

Yes folks --it was King McShrub #1 who put that shit out.

The thought of a violent black man coming into your lily white daughter's bedroom and RAPING her was too much for WHITE Amerika to handle.

So they voted for the Connecticut Yankee from Texas.

4 Years later they voted the sorry ass motherfucker out.

39. I had seen that before
The Chimpanzee may have worked with Atwater. It is doubtful however if Atwater ever gave the Chimp any job more mentally challenging than getting the coffee.

Atwater, God rest his soul was true evil personified. The new generation of Handlers, Ralph Reed, Rove et al, learned a lot from Lee Atwater. They are evil, racist hooligans. If there is some toothless low educated voting imbecile out there, Ralph and Rove will figure a way to motivate that cretin to vote for corporate special interests.

14. Hmmm - they did the same thing, pix of twin towers while mentioning Saddam
.

and vice versa

pictures of Saddam floating in the background while mentioning the Towers

and it worked . .

there's still way too many Americans that connect the towers with Saddam . .

so this bugs me because the majority of the American people "bought" it last time

I know there's outrage out there - I just hope it's enough when it comes to voting . .

This guy is James Zogby, president of the Washington-based Arab American Institute and a member of the Democratic party's National Committee. I believe it to be a different person

BTW, many people around here only believe polls that back their positions.

All along, I've been thinking it was the same Zogby. I wondered why "he" was so outspoken, while running a polling firm! I even wrote an article recently that identified James as the pollster. I'll correct that now -- you've saved me from an embarrassing mistake

Edited on Fri Mar-12-04 05:19 PM by stldemocrat
I think you are thinking of a different Zogby. This one seems to have an organization to protect Arab Americans from discrimination. I think the one you are thinking of is the pollster. I am sure Arab Americans have had enough of the discrimination, and will vote Democratic this fall.

I type a little slow.

19. Go Zogby! It's Racist To The Core
Now if other Arabs that believe that Bush loves them will see the light, they will change their votes to Democratic.

I am African American and I am insulted with the Ad! Why does everything bad need to be dark? I see the Ad as a strong hint that Bushco will protect their base from all African Americans and Hispanics and Asians. Anyone that isn't pure White. Of course that is what they want it to mean.

Why didn't they have a picture of Timothy McVey and his buddies? What about using the KKK who are alive and well all over this country?

I am writing Mr. UnPresident right after this and tell him that the Ad is racist to the core.

Where is the compassion? Where is Colin? Where is Babysitter Condi?
He usually shows Condi every time he needs a diaper change - what did she say when she saw this AD --- I know, she thought it was wonderful!

According to friends that knew her family. They were nothing like this, she was raised to respect civil rights gains.
I have no excuse for her sorry stand on everything that is good for ALL people.

So many people tell me that Colin is better than Condi. I say they could both be put in the same cell that Clarence The Porn Man is in.

Condi is an oil woman. She served for ten years on the board of directors of Chevron. She has a tanker named after her. She secured oil contracts for Chevron throughout the Caspian and other former Soviet republics. Why do you suppose she is so close to them? Her skin has nothing to do with it. She is just another greedy repuke bastard.

25. For Chimp, Arch-Bigot Ashcroft and their whole host of racists . . .
. . . the Muslim/Arab is the "Other" for the 21st Century. It is an easy one to revive and has its roots in the European Crusades. They are dehumanized and subhuman in image and in subtext, and this makes it okay to "convert," occupy, maim, rob, and murder them.

There have been "Others" in the past, including African-Americans, European Jews (also originating from the Christian Crusades), Native Americans, the list goes on. . .

Arab-Americans are actually Christian. Most of the anti-Arab crowd is unaware of this.

Not that it should matter, this sort of flagrant scapegoating would be just as sickening if most Arab Americans were Muslim. It simply underscores the intellectually bankrupt nature of stereotyping.

limbaugh really hosed up trying to defend bush... check out this piece:

quotes:

A Not-So-Mighty Wind: Limbaugh Blows It Once Again
By Allan P. Duncan
So yesterday, while doing a Google search on 9-11, I ran across a radio transcript from Rush Limbaugh's radio show titled Anti-Bush 9-11 Families Backed By Heinz Foundation in which Limbaugh bashes two 9-11 Widows for being critical of the 9-11 footage in the recent Bush Campaign ads.
Here are some excerpts from the show:
http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_030904/content/see_i_told_you_so.guest.html
“Well, it turns out that a lot of these 9-11 family members are part of a political organization that is funded in part by Teresa Heinz-Kerry! Well, this stuff is incestuous! You know, these people are poisoned. They have literally been poisoned by their hate. They have been poisoned by their rage. It is unbelievable, the depths to which they will sink.

<snip>

Well, I have a big surprise for Mr. Limbaugh!

September 11 th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows released this statement last night in response to the claims that Teresa Heinz Kerry was funding their organization:
Peaceful Tomorrows statement on the "Kerry Connection"

September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows has never received funding from the Howard Heinz Endowment, the Vira I. Heinz Endowment, Teresa Heinz Kerry or John Kerry.

Peaceful Tomorrows has no connection with the Heinz or Kerry families through Tides Foundation, the Tides Center or any other entity.

Peaceful Tomorrows has been a not-for-profit project of the Tides Center since July of 2002.  As our fiscal sponsor, the Tides Center provides administrative and financial services that allow the staff and membership of Peaceful Tomorrows to focus on work related to our mission.  We raise money for our own work and we pay Tides Center 9% of those funds in exchange for vital services such as invoice payment, tax services, and insurance.

Any questions about Tides Foundation or the Tides Center can be addressed to Christopher Herrera , Tides Foundation's Director of Communications at 415. 561. 6355, or Willa Seldon, Executive Director for the Tides Center at 415.
