(NY) Senators pledge to find out how local soldier was killed

COLONIE, N.Y. -- Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand are promising a military mother they will find out exactly what happened to her daughter.

Staff Sergeant Amy Seyboth Tirador died in Iraq earlier this month. She was laid to rest on Monday.

The Army says she did not die in combat.

Colleen Murphy holds the memory of her daughter close to her heart. More than two weeks after Staff Sgt. Tirador was killed, her family is still waiting for answers on who shot her to death inside her secure military base.

Murphy is now getting the support of at least two Washington lawmakers in her quest for answers.

Reading from a letter she recently received from Senator Gillibrand, Murpy says she is more confident that she will eventually know what happened to her 29-year-old daughter.

Reading Gillibrand’s letter aloud Murphy said, “Although there are no words to ease the sorrow, I send my deepest personal condolences to you.”

Senator Schumer has also vowed to help the Colonie family.

Could she have testified to massive corruption and fraud and collusion between higher-ups in her chain of command, and contractors or/and suppliers?

Could she have testified to appalling officer incompetence, unsafe living conditions, and/or other criminal detriments to performance and morale?

Could she have testified to the involvement of someone who couldn't be quietly disciplined and swept under the rug in her rape, assault, and/or sexual harassment? Or in the harassment of a peer?

What? What indeed? I'm guessing that now we will never know.

And then to not know how or why it happened... This is so wrong.

...she could've gotten run over by an armored vehicle during a bivouac. This happened to a female member of the Mobile Hospital Unit a childhood friend of mine belonged to. This was nearly twenty-five years ago during desert training at Fort Irwin, California. How could you explain that to someone's parents? Or that they were washed overboard and lost at sea during a typhoon or such? Please, it's bad enough that somebody was lost, but to paint it with such a cartoon conspiracy brush is just wrong. Probability-wise, it might be nothing more than an accident; the military environment is a lot like a factory, but without any OSHA type safety standards. Just look at something as basic as Marines clambering down cargo netting in rough seas to train for amphibious operations; it's very easy to misjudge the swells and either break a leg, or fall in between the ship and the landing craft. This stuff still happens all the time, unfortunately. Having said that, I would be suspicious of lax safety measures on the part of the military authorities, which is infuriating enough. Things don't change until somebody dies. Disgusting.

The article states she was shot to death in her secure compound. Accident is what you had by posting that dissimulating hogwash you posted. SHE WAS MURDERED. Silly apologist...

DOD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Staff Sgt. Amy C. Tirador, 29, of Albany, N.Y., died Nov. 4 in Kirkush, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident. She was assigned to the 209th Military Intelligence Company, 1st Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Wash.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

Dear Any Soldier Inc.

Thank you for linking me up with a generous family in NV who has already sent care packages to us. I am still at the following address:

Address Has Changed

and do not have plans on relocating any time soon. We receive mail just once a week out here at this camp and opening a box from the AnySoldier program is always a treat for whomever is around me at the time. An AAFES establishment opened at our location during the past month, so the things you send have now become more of a treat than a necessity, but are still very much appreciated. Additionall y each time the mail arrives, we realize that another week has passed and we are that much closer to getting back home.

Some specific requests include: beef jerky, dove brand Shampoo, head 'n shoulders brand shampoo, s'mores flavored pop tarts, juicy friut gum.
I've found that we haev an aboundance of waterless hand sanitizer here and do not have need for that product at this time.

Thank you so much for the time and efforts everyone involved puts toward this program.

I am requesting items for the realtively small number of female troops at this particular location. We do have a laundry service, we do not have microwave, refridgerator, or freezer for personal use nor do we have the ability to cook. We will soon live in container housing (CHUs) I serve from Ft Lewis, WA. Special requests include twin sized sheet sets for our bunk beds and female scented deoderant sticks. We will be grateful for any items you send and appreciate your service to us!
