(ABC News) EXCLUSIVE: CIA Secret 'Torture' Prison Found at Fancy Horseback Riding AcademyUpdated at 3:23 PM
Source: ABC News

ABC News Finds the Location of a "Black Site" for Alleged Terrorists in Lithuania

The CIA built one of its secret European prisons inside an exclusive riding academy outside Vilnius, Lithuania, a current Lithuanian government official and a former U.S. intelligence official told ABC News this week.

Where affluent Lithuanians once rode show horses and sipped coffee at a café, the CIA installed a concrete structure where it could use harsh tactics to interrogate up to eight suspected al-Qaeda terrorists at a time. A full report on the can be seen on ABC's World News with Charles Gibson tonight.

"The activities in that prison were illegal," said human rights researcher John Sifton. "They included various forms of torture, including sleep deprivation, forced standing, painful stress positions."

Lithuanian officials provided ABC News with the documents of what they called a CIA front company, Elite, LLC, which purchased the property and built the "black site" in 2004.

Lithuania agreed to allow the CIA prison after President George W. Bush visited the country in 2002 and pledged support for Lithuania's efforts to join NATO.

"The new members of NATO were so grateful for the U.S. role in getting them into that organization that they would do anything the U.S. asked for during that period," said former White House counterterrorism czar Richard Clarke, now an ABC News consultant. "They were eager to please and eager to be cooperative on security and on intelligence matters."

4. Knowing Lithuania's history...this is no surprise.
I visited Lithuania and Latvia a couple years back. I would HIGHLY recommend a visit to anyone. Their history is so horrid and filled with rape, plunder and pillage. They have the "Occupation Museum" in Vilnius, I believe it is. Totally shocking what those people have been through.

The site where thousands of Jews were marched to their death, and the open pits are still there as a shrine to the torrid horror that took place in that land.

Yes....fitting that w would chose this as a place for continued torture. I wish he would get some of his own medicine.....he and that disgusting pig darth and his family. Disgusting human filth.

Here's how it should have read:

"the CIA installed a concrete structure where it could torture up to eight suspected al-Qaeda terrorists at a time."

The truth hurts, but we can never recover our humanity, let alone regain the moral highground, until we face it, and hold the torturers, and the torture planners, accountable.

Maybe I grew up differently than other people (actually, I'm pretty sure I did), but...standing?

Don't we do this to our own soldiers?

Is it torture there, too?

Try to find out more about the subject first then treat everyone to your opinion.

Why bother to quarrel with every article? Pick your battles wisely or risk sounding stupid.

means you can't sleep

if you do, you fall flat on your face with no protection, which could cause serious injury

I am sure there is also intense paid in the legs and back.

20. Notice the article writer chose three examples, no more.
"including..." then only three examples, examples that don't sound that awful when written.

Some examples are reported as being raping the children of the tortured. So far, the pictures are being held against court order by Obama's request not to release whatever those new pictures will tell with indelible clarity.
