Former presidents to face off in debate
Source: NY Post

Bubba and Dubya are going to engage in a presidential debate for the ages.

Former President Bill Clinton and George W. Bush will square off on the same stage at Radio City Music Hall in February as part of a series pitting liberal and conservative thinkers.
The event is part of MSG Entertainment's third annual "Minds That Move The World" speakers series.

The event -- billed as "The Hottest Ticket in Political History" -- will take place on Feb. 25, 2010, at 8 p.m., according to organizers.

Clinton, a Democrat who served two terms starting in 1993, and Bush, a Republican, who also served two consecutive terms starting in 2001, will engage in an "uncensored, unedited and unpredixctable" debate.

Since its inception, the series has featured such high-profile figures as former Bush's former Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove, Democratic political strategist James Carville, former Vice President Al Gore, comedian Bill Maher and former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.

12. Strange that Bush would even agree to this - his debates against Kerry were pathetic
Edited on Tue Nov-03-09 05:26 PM by karynnj
Now, I would not diminish the fact that Kerry is an outstanding debater against anyone, but the fact is that people at that time comparing JUST the Bush parts of Bush vs Ann Richards, Bush vs Gore, and then Bush vs Kerry found that he became worse as time went on. (One advantage Clinton has over Kerry is that Bush is not the President, they are both ex-Presidents. Of course, a major advantage Kerry has over Clinton is temperament - the only thing I can see hurting Clinton is if he explodes.)

The question is whether it will really be a real debate, as even the Presidential debates weren't.

31. Not surprised Clinton & Bush are doing this...
Didn't Bush just do that embarrassing "Get Motivated!" seminar in Fort Worth? This is all about the money. And, much as I'll always love Bill Clinton (flaws and all), I'm thinking he's looking at the cash as well.

Don't expect Clinton to embarrass Bush. I imagine it will be pretty academic - yup, even for dubya (I don't think he's nearly as stupid as he'd have us believe). And now that he's not running for office, he might just be a little honest for a change.

He was alone onstage, he had every opportunity to shred Bush, and did not. Audience had Q and A time. Memebers of the audience asked him to shred Bush. He did not. He would not. And he won't.

26. Time to play 'Legitimize a war criminal!'
Wheeeeeee!!!

In the safe haven of America, war criminals can find many opportunities to flaunt themselves and earn money. They can teach, hit the lecture circuit, and even sit on the bench! Because in America, crimes against humanity won't land you in jail (but smoking pot will). So torture all you want - just don't fire one up when you do!

52. Bill Clinton, George W. Bush to Debate in NYCUpdated at 3:23 PM
Source: CBS News

It is, according to organizers, "the hottest ticket in political history": On February 25th, former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton will debate at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Interested spectators can pay $60 for the cheap seats or shell out up to $1,250 to be closer to the action and attend a cocktail reception with the former presidents.

As Newsday reports, the two men have been teaming up a lot: They appeared together in Toronto in May (reports speculated that they earned $150,000 each for the hour-long appearance) and will be together at a TD Ameritrade conference in Florida in February.

Organizers at these sorts of events generally do not disclose how much participants are compensated.

A spokesperson for Madison Square Garden Entertainment, which is hosting the event, could not immediately be reached for comment. Newsday reports that "Clinton and Bush, during a moderated question-and-answer period, will discuss a wide range of current events and national issues."

The event may not offer the fireworks that partisans might hope for: At the Toronto event, Mr. Bush called Mr. Clinton "brother" and the two rarely disagreed despite their ideological differences. The Toronto crowd was reportedly disappointed and had hoped for a more spirited debate.

59. Both are responsible, but Bush more so.
True, Bill signed repeal of Glass Steagall, but Dummya could have reinstated it and did not. Bill left office with a modest surplus. Dummya left office with the world in an economic black hole. So, overall, I have to go with Bush.

BTW, Obama has not reinstated Glass Steagall either and while we are all looking at health care, Barney Frank's Committee is up to no good on derivatives and "too big to fail" institutions.

What this country DESPERATELY needs is a sharp turn to the left. A true Progressive administration and a Progressive majority in the Congress. Interesting how the Democrats are now the fiscally responsible party.

What I'd also like to see is gutting the Defense budget by a good 20-25%. $750 BILLION per YEAR is insane!!

This is Clinton's second effort at sharing the stage so as to legitimize Bush.
