Bullet Hits Lou Dobbs' NJ Home With Wife Nearby
Source: rr.com

WANTAGE, N.J.— Police in New Jersey are trying to determine who fired a bullet that struck CNN commentator Lou Dobbs' home as his wife stood nearby. State police Sgt. Stephen Jones says Dobbs' wife and driver were outside the home Oct. 5 when they heard the gunshot. Jones says the bullet didn't penetrate the siding and fell to the ground outside.

Dobbs mentioned the bullet earlier this week on CNN and his radio show.

Dobbs says he had been receiving threatening phone calls for weeks. On his radio show, he connected the gunshot to his advocacy for a crackdown on illegal immigration and to his opponents' rhetoric.

The home is on a farm in Wantage, about 50 miles northwest of New York City.

It is small-game hunting season, but no hunters were seen in the area.

Just because they didn't see any hunters in the area doesn't mean someone wasn't out somewhere plinking with a rifle. I'm betting it was an unintentional hit from a spent round.

10. It was probably some kid in the neighborhood ...
in his own backyard and the gun went off accidentally and the kid probably doesn't even know who Lou Dobbs is.
Since the bullet didn't penetrate the house then the gun was probably fired off quite a ways away.
Sounds like just a fluke and nothing that was purposefully aimed at Dobbs.

11. How stupid
Dobbs is a racist choad. But even he did not deserve this.

Not only is it wrong but if this was a case of someone shooting at him because they don't' like what he says, they have now hurt their position.

Now Dobbs and the right will claim they are victims and in this case Dobbs is.

19. Yeah, he's blaming Geraldo for this.....
...because Lou's a hero on the front lines of a war to save the country:

Lou Dobbs said on his radio show that gunshots have been fired at him, his wife, and their home in the past few weeks — and he blames his critics (http://newsbusters.org/blogs/jeff-poor/2009/10/29/cnns-lou-dobbs-claims-shots-fired-home-wife">via NewsBusters).

"They've created an atmosphere and they've been unrelenting in their propaganda," Dobbs said on his radio show earlier this week.

"Three weeks ago this morning, a shot was fired at my house where I live," he said. "My wife was standing out and that followed weeks and weeks of threatening phone calls....this shot was fired with my wife not, I don't know, 15 feet away and we had had threatening phone calls that I decided not to report because I get threatening phone calls. I now - it's become part of a way of life - the anger, the hate, the vitriol, but it's taken a different tone where they've threatened my wife. They've now fired a shot at my house while my wife was standing next to the car. It's become something else."

Dobbs places these shots in the larger context of a culture war that's being played out across the nation. "And if anybody thinks that we're not engaged in a battle for the soul of this country right now, you're sorely mistaken," he said. "My wife has now been, and I have been, shot at, our driver, my house has been shot and hit. An investigation continues. I've had bodyguards now and you know what, I'm not in the mood to put up with little fools like Geraldo Rivera," Dobbs said.

I'm sorry that it's come to this, if in fact it has. I'm not yet convinced that anything has actually happened. If someone did shoot at you, I hope they catch them. And yet I also realize that you've made a great living pumping up the hate-o-meter, especially for Hispanics. It's made you millions in cash. So whatever the case, it was you who made this bed of nails Lou. You with your race-baiting hate. And so now you must lie in it.

45. ROFL
War of the 'Staches, oh no

I'm not a big fan of his, but Geraldo is 1) Puerto Rican last I checked, and 2) A US citizen. So Dobbs needs to take his race-bating ass and STFU.

I hate these right wingers throwing out Latin names as though everyone with Hispanic ancestry is Mexican (and therefore illegal or illegitimate). As if Hispanics are all alike. Remember Sotomayor and that stupid "Ricky Ricardo" (He was Cuban, dumbasses!) comment during her confirmation hearings? It works a lot like a dog whistle. Like Pavlov's dogs, their dumb minions hear anything Spanish-sounding and freak out.

21. I have little doubt it was a .22 from some small game hunter, whether
seen in the area or not. At their extreme range, they will bounce off things like siding. Probably would not even have penetrated Lou.
Probably a squirrel hunter, not the Mexican Avenger.

33. Exactly....
.... anyone who has ever hunted, especially these days with mansions being built in prime hunting areas, has had close calls with spent BB's and .22 shells from squirrel hunters; happens many times daily in every state with fall hunting seasons. Dobbs probably knows this, but now that he's in the soup so badly, he uses this October 5th incident to deflect blame and try and create sympathy. If he had been truly concerned, he would have called the cops immediately after this happened on October 5. It is now October 29... says a lot, right?

And in doing so, lose momentum until it will just bounce off the side of a house. It was probably an errant shot from a hunter very far away.

34. "Dobbs' wife and driver"
State police Sgt. Stephen Jones says Dobbs' wife and driver were outside the home Oct. 5 when they heard the gunshot. Jones says the bullet didn't penetrate the siding and fell to the ground outside.

First, this was obviously either a random or a staged incident. An errant .22 round from someone's back yard a half mile away could "fall to the ground" without penetrating anything.

Second, I care little for anyone who's lifestyle requires the inclusion of a "driver."

"IN MY HOME! IN MY BEDROOM! Where my wife sleeps... and my children play with their toys!"

I also think he wants to co-opt similar claims coming from the left--that RW rhetoric has been leading to violent acts.

If, however, I am wrong and anything intentional did happen, of course it's wrong. Duh.

48. Ever think Dobbs that they were shooting at your
"illegal immigrant" looking wife? This guy is such a dumb ass. Does he really think that when he gins up the unbalanced racists and xenophobes enough to attack that they will check to see if the brown person is an American citizen? He has put his whole family in jeopardy with his hate. It was probably one of his viewers not knowing that it was his home.
:sarcasm:

That aside, Dobbs is a profound exaggerator and liar. I'm siding with the police account on this one.
