Murdoch: Fox News liberal pundit fired
Source: Hollywood Reporter

NEW YORK -- Rupert Murdoch continued Fox News Channel's duel with the White House on Friday while also announcing the termination of the network's left-leaning analyst Marc Lamont Hill.

Asked about the White House's recent suggestion that Fox News is acting like an arm of the Republican Party, Murdoch simply said at a shareholders meeting that the criticism has "tremendously increased their ratings."

...snip...

Murdoch also said that Hill has been fired. He revealed the move after a shareholder had raised the question of how Hill was hired, citing his "reputation of defending cop killers and racists."

And he appeared on some of the other talking heads shows too...that Greta woman had him.

He's a professor and I've followed his blog for a couple of years. He's a moderate liberal and he and O'Really would banter back and forth. I like Marc but I had to quit Faux News and it's now banned in this house. I followed Marc's blog but couldn't stomach O'Really anymore.

16. He wrote editorials for the Metro in Boston
Mostly right leaning Republican supporter.

However, he started moving to the left once Obama ran for President.

I think his last column might have driven Murdoch over the edge.

Take a look:

No choice but right

Recently, the Center for American Progress released a study that confirmed what many of us already knew: The nation’s radio airwaves are dominated by conservative talk.

8. Murdoch is much more interested in profits than politics from insider reports
so the more controversial the better in his mind. controversy means ratings means profits. Beck was a goldmine for ratings until advertisers started abandoning him. The reason fox doesn't care about the truth, is that there CEO cares most about profits and they lie and create controversy to get profits. telling the truth gets them nothing. That is how they operate.

39. Murdoch is much more interested in profits than politics????
Do you know when Fox News was launched? In 1996. I was alive and watching news back then and FOX was considered a joke. It's ratings were dismal. Not until 2001 did it start making money. Murdoch nursed it and allowed it to eat into profits because he's a right wing-nut and wanted to get his political views on air, no matter the cost.

And here is why Fox News has the ratings now:

"Later, in 2001, Fox bought several stations owned by Chris-Craft Industries and its subsidiaries BHC Communications and United Television (most of these were UPN affiliates, although one later became a Fox O&O). This made Fox one of the largest owners of television stations in the United States. Although Fox was growing rapidly as a network and had established itself as a presence, it was still not considered a major competitor to the big three broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC)."

They bought up stations through out the country and forced on them their fake news programs. So, in many parts of the country if you watch local news, you get to watch Fox News too.

Don't let him fool you, Murdoch is very interested in politics otherwise he wouldn't have nursed Fox noise for years.

take precedent over politics. He has supported liberals when he deemed it in his financial interest, showing support for hillary clinton, tony blair and many others. Sure, Fox is a mouthpiece for the republican party, but think of it this way- they have a unique niche=profits and huge support from wealthy corporations that need an outlet for their propaganda. He fills that niche and has become quite wealthy doing it. Murdoch was already very wealthy from a series of tabloids before he put together the fox channel and was willing to take a loss for the prospect of huge future profits. He knew there was a market, audience and corporate support for this type of tabloid "journalism" and he went for it. He is first and foremost, a businessman. If he thought he could make money by turning fox into the Obamalove channel, he'd do it. I'm not arguing that he doesn't have conservative leanings, but just for him, it's primarily business. Research his biography.

9. From Think Progress:Fox News Reportedly Fires Liberal Analyst Marc Lamont Hill
Yesterday, Accuracy in Media’s Cliff Kincaid announced that at today’s annual News Corp. meeting, he would urge Chairman Rupert Murdoch to fire Fox News analyst Marc Lamont Hill, whom he called a “left-wing cop-killer apologist.” Hill appears as an on-air contributor on shows such as The O’Reilly Factor.

The Live Feed reports that when Murdoch was asked this question (presumably by Kincaid), he replied that Hill had already been fired:

Rupert Murdoch continued Fox News Channel’s duel with the White House on Friday while also announcing the termination of the network’s left-leaning analyst Marc Lamont Hill. <...>

Murdoch also said that Hill has been fired. He revealed the move after a shareholder had raised the question of how Hill was hired, citing his “reputation of defending cop killers and racists.

31. Murdoch hints at job cuts after News Corp records $6.4bn loss
News Corporation slumped to a $6.4bn (£4.37bn) loss in the last three months of last year, marking what Rupert Murdoch, the company's chairman and chief executive, last night called "a direct reflection of the grim economic climate".

The heavy losses incurred for the three months ended in December reflected the media conglomerate's decision to write down $8.4bn of its assets – including those of Dow Jones, the American news and financial information company it acquired in 2007 for $5.6bn.

But with the recession biting into advertising revenue, the company's many outlets failed to buck the downturn and Murdoch raised the prospects of further job losses.

"While we anticipated a weakening, the downturn is more severe and likely longer lasting than previously thought," he said. "As a result, we have been taking actions to preserve a solid level of operational profitability and a strong balance sheet without sacrificing future growth. We are implementing rigorous cost-cutting across all operations and reducing head count where appropriate."

36. Interesting
In Canada, the Canwest right-wing propaganda machine has declared bankruptcy.

It could be that propaganda is just a money loser, in the long run. The state had to subsidize propaganda in the USSR.

40. I think that's exactly it.
When Raygun ended the "fairness doctrine", it opened the door to "news" as political propaganda, and from that point on content went straight to hell, viewership declined, they started losing money. Of course the internet has a lot to do with it too. TV is becoming like radio, a quasi-obsolete advertising medium where the "content" is driven almost exclusivly by niche advertising markets.

But Murdoch will not willingly put down his personal bullhorn just because it loses money.

32. Murdoch vows to charge for all online content
Rupert Murdoch has vowed to charge for all the online content of his newspapers and television news channels, going well beyond his prediction in May that the company would test pay models on one of its stronger papers within the year.

The comments by News Corp's chairman came as he predicted a "high single digit" rebound in the group's operating profits next year. The worst of the media sector slump might be behind the company, he said, as he reported "some good signs of life" in advertising.

Newspaper and television revenues would be down "very low double digits" next year, but growth in cable properties such as Fox News would leave advertising revenues flat and total revenue up 4 per cent.

News Corp put the seal on a brutal fiscal year with a fourth- quarter net loss of $203m (£119m), dragged down by $680m in impairment and restructuring charges at Fox Interactive Media, whose MySpace social networking site cut more than 700 jobs in the period.

30. This worries me.
Faux viewers aren't interested in learning the truth and aren't ashamed to be ignorant. Our crappy american educational system has finally come home to roost: we are dumb, anti-intellectual and proud of it. It makes me want to puke, and it makes me want to get the hell out of here though of course I won't.

44. Wonder how long it will be until Shepard Smith goes?
You know, he who actually defends the public option and won't condone torture on FAUX news.
