Kerry in Palm Beach Post: "Says GOP stole last election"
That is the sub-headline. The headline is "Kerry vows vigilance at polls"

Pretty wild to see it right there on the front page in the local paper.

A little of the story:

'"What can you do to prevent them from stealing the election again?" Kerry asked a crowd of hundreds at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Hollywood, his first stop in a three-city Florida campaign swing Monday.'

1. Great that Kerry is saying it out loud...
...but this has to be coupled with (his staff & operatives) explaining to everyone how the repugs stole the election, right down to the voter roll purge, the highly questionable SCOTUS decision and the true outcome of the 2000 votes in FL (after independent examination by a consortium of media entities, it was found that Gore won FL). Most people aren't aware of this, or they've forgotten...

16. They've forgotten because the media buried it
The consortium's findings were beginning to come out when 9/11 hit, and the rest of the story was aborted due to "national interest" – not wanting to delegitimize the president* at a time of tragedy.

2. true. people need to be reminded at every turn
what a joke and a scam the 2000 election was. from the state troopers who turned away black voters, to the activist judges on the supreme court who pissed on 220 years of history.

keep so much attention focused on them that they can't pull the crap they did last time.

go get 'em, senator kerry!

4. Great story, Vickers!
Edited on Tue Mar-09-04 09:03 AM by Angel_O_Peace
But, it may get locked unless you change the subject line to the original headline. You still can put in parantheses (GOP stole last election...there's plenty of room for that. O8)

5. Angel_O_Peace, thanks, and about the headline
The "Kerry vows vigilance at polls" is a blanket heading over two stories, one of which is the "Says GOP stole last election" one.

I had read that rule:

"6. When posting articles, please use the published title of the article as the title of the discussion thread."

ans since this was the headline over a particular story, it seemed to apply.

Mods, I tried! This is my first attempt at starting a thread, and I'm trying to do it right!

Sincerely,

Vickers

6. Okie-Dokie :-)
When I accessed the story, the only headline I saw was:
"Kerry vows vigilance at polls".

Just didn't want this great story to get locked.

Glad to have you on DU! :hi:

8. You folks ought to volunteer to be poll workers
You could become "poll watchers" too , which means you spend election day, November 2, at the poll making sure people don't get turned away and disenfranchised. If anything peculiar happens, you can whip out your cell phone and call the TV station, too.

12. I agree, there are more than enough poll worker positions available
As an aside, calling the T.V. station is not the procedure for handling peculiar happenings. That course of action will likely get you removed from the polls, for several reasons. As a poll worker for well over a decade, I can tell you, I wouldn't put up with it at all. Unless you are a voter, poll worker, challenger or witness, you are not allowed into a polling area. This includes the press. Another reason is a new "poll watcher's" uninformed opinion of what is peculiar can vary greatly. When you see someone turned away because they moved last week and now should vote at another site, you may believe they are being disenfranchised whereas I would be simply following the rules. Then you may witness someone else in being allowed to vote when you believe they have moved but were less than truthful when they answered the question "where do you live today".

Let me clue everyone in on a secret. They poll workers are human. We are at the polls at 6 AM until almost 8 PM. We sit on benches and folding chairs for 14 hours. There are times when we follow the very letter of the rules and there are times when we just don't feel like fighting about something minor that IS NOT FRAUD. We know people move. We also know most people go to the last place they voted when they don't know for sure where to vote. We know you are just trying to vote. It has nothing to do with being a Dem or Rep. It has to do with being tired, hungry or just fickle. Remember there are both Dems and Reps at those tables. Nothing is done without both parties seeing it.

I say, sign up for duty, get training and get a good night's sleep....you'll need it.

9. How's them apples for the Kerry critics?
"I'm often asked how it feels to run for the highest office in the land," Kerry said. "I don't have a clue. I'm not running for secretary of state of Florida."

Democratic crowds roared at the reminder of former Secretary of State Katherine Harris, who gave the initial order to stop the recounting of votes in 2000. Harris is now a Sarasota-area Congresswoman.

10. Great, but late.
Four years late. Michael Moore beat him to it at the Oscars. I remember being doubly devastated over the theft because my own party was afraid to state the obvious.

13. Great! Kerry is on the ball.
...
"We're going to pre-check it, we're going to have the legal team in place," said Kerry, who expected to easily win today's Florida presidential primary. "We're going to take injunctions where necessary ahead of time. We'll pre-challenge if necessary."

14. Kerry @ Ybor City, Tampa ...
http://election.tbo.com/election/MGARSUZILRD.html

<snip>
The 2000 election debacle is a passionate subject with loyal Democrats, and Kerry tried to stoke their fires by vowing to set up legal teams that would monitor ballots statewide this fall, making sure votes are accurately tallied against President Bush.

``Not only do we want a record level of turnout, we want to guarantee that every vote is counted,'' Kerry said in Hollywood, one of three stops in Florida that ended with an evening event at Tampa's Centro Ybor.
<snip>

<snip>
Kerry said Monday he would ``pre-challenge if necessary'' in any county or precinct where voting security is questioned.

Evil Jeb settled a lawsuit by promising to reinstate the purged voters.

And you're right -- Jeb is a dirty devious liar. Someone should be saying what you said about reinstating the wrongly purged voters!!
