Justice Ginsburg released
Source: Politico

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who was hospitalized Thursday after receiving a medical treatment at the court, was released Friday and was expected to be back at work in the afternoon, the court said in a statement.

Ginsburg, 76, received an intravenous infusion to treat anemia Thursday and subsequently “felt faint, developed light headedness and fatigue,” spokeswoman Patricia McCabe-Estrada said in a statement e-mailed to reporters. “Fluids were administered and her symptoms improved, but she was taken as a precaution for evaluation at the Washington Hospital Center at approximately 7:45 p.m.”

The court’s statement about her hospitalization Thursday made no direct reference to her prior illnesses, but suggested that doctors had found her to be cancer-free just a few months ago.

“The Justice underwent a comprehensive assessment of health in July 2009,” McCabe-Estrada’s statement said. “This involved medical evaluation, imaging scans, and comprehensive blood tests. The result of this evaluation was that she was in completely normal health with the exception of a low red blood cell count caused by deficiency of iron. Intravenous iron therapy was administered in a standard fashion.”

7. Yeah... and right after Patrick Swayze's death, too...
... of the same cause.

Glad she seems to be beating it better than he is.

6. Very best wishes, Justice Ginsberg.
Her opinion in Bush v. Gore stated the she had decided to "dissent", omitting the traditional qualifier that a Supreme Court justice would normally employ, indicating that they had chosen to dissent "respectfully".

It was a Dred Scott moment, and she wasn't afraid to make it clear in the historical record what her knowledge of the Constitution and the precedence of law had firmly led her to conclude.

9. Justice Ginsberg was first diagnosed with
colon cancer in 1999. Hang in there Ruth, not for us for yourself and your family.

10. Isn't this a known side effect of her treatment that can be monitored via taking a blood sample?
Edited on Sat Sep-26-09 04:22 AM by No Elephants
With all we've been hearing about unnecessary medical tests, seems as though this could have been avoided via testing that her treatment would have indicated might be necessary. If they had taken a blood sample, they could have given her extra iron and avoided the hospitalizaion and all the other tests that went with that. I'm no doc, though.

No matter what, delighted that iron was the issue. Glad she's out of the hospital.

Be strong, Justice Ruth!
