Sotomayor to throw out first pitch
Source: MLB

United States Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, a lifelong Yankees fan who grew up not far from Yankee Stadium, is set to take the mound on Saturday afternoon for a ceremonial first pitch.

The Bronx native will take the mound on Saturday, prior to the Yankees' 4:10 p.m. ET game against the Red Sox on FOX. On Friday, Panama President Ricardo Martinelli threw a ceremonial first pitch to closer Mariano Rivera to open New York's series with Boston.

Sotomayor, 55, has been dubbed as "the judge who saved baseball." In 1995, as a federal trial judge, Sotomayor issued a preliminary injunction that helped end the Major League Baseball strike of 1994-95. In nominating Sotomayor for the Supreme Court this May, President Barack Obama referenced that case.

"Having Justice Sotomayor, a South Bronx native, participate in our yearly Hispanic Heritage Month celebration is very exciting, as she is an inspiration to so many," said Manuel García, the Yankees' director of Latino affairs. "We are proud to welcome her and President Martinelli to our new home."

7. Number 9 - Number 9 - Number 9
That is Ted Williams climbing out of that jet fighter correct?
NOW, that is a freaking man.
Teddy Ballgame.
The greatest goddamn hitter that ever held a bat.
Period.

Let's go down to the parking lot and get it on if you disagree.

:hi:

I'm so happy for Justice Sotomayor.
She's going to make a lot of people happy tomorrow, me included.

8. Yep. He said the Marines were the best team he was ever on!
I'm thrilled for Sotomayor also. What a big day for her.

Ted hit for line drives, not for home runs. Neat that the next best hitter - who also played for a shitty team - was also a San Diego boy - Tony Gwynn. I'm glad they got to know one another.

19. Well, the borderline between Yanks and Sox fans is somewhere around Hartford.
I'm a Groton Girl, hence the Sox affiliation.

24.  I am from Cheshire and he is from Southington. In CT, its funny because
I am a Patriots fan through my husband but was raised a Giants fan. Its that split in CT between NY and Mass...there were always contentious fights in high school, college, and at work about what teams were better.

20. Nice.
And I can appreciate real Yankees fans, like the new SCJ. I loved going to games at the old stadium. I'm sure the new one is wonderful, but I don't have the same excitement about going there when I'm in town.

PS -- Go Brewers!

23. Even if she's a Yankees fan, I love her dearly! And, as far as I am
concerned, if the Supreme Court were filled with women and men Yankees fans like her, I would not mind a bit.
