Conyers seeks answers on ACORN
BY TODD SPANGLER

WASHINGTON House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers a Detroit Democrat is weighing into the controversy involving a much-maligned national community organization, asking congressional researchers whether any laws may have been broken by surreptitious recording of the groups employees.

Just last week, the Democratic-led House followed up on a Senate vote that started cutting off federal funding for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now or ACORN, amid Republican-led calls for a widespread investigation into the group and its activities.

Even President Barack Obama has criticized the actions of ACORN employees in Baltimore, Washington, D.C. and elsewhere seen in sting videos who appear to give tax advice to filmmakers pretending to a hooker and her boyfriend.

Conyers and House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank of Massachussets today asked the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service to provide an analysis on several aspects of ACORN, including any current or previous criminal investigations into the group; a breakdown of any funding received by the group and any violations of the terms of that funding; a report on alleged improprieties in collecting voter registration forms and the extent ... that resulted in people being improperly placed on voting roles and actually attempting to vote, and the groups programs to provide housing opportunities.

3. Conyers is one of the last people who should be looking at ethical lapses
He needs to clean up his own act first.

5. Facts are stubborn things
The fact is these two neocon fraudsters committed a felony in Maryland and are supposed to be indicted. Of course a Congressional investigation should be done, but the big money dems and the rethugs will team up to delay it and make sure the pubblic has lost all interest befor the truth comes out. John was a good man but he's been there too long and is too old. Hell he served with my father in the Korean War. One of our problems is that these politicians keep hanging on way too long. Of course
playing along with a prank and being duped by frausdsters are a crime if your poor and especially if your non-white. If your white and Rich like and get taken by fraudsters selling lordships you get to sit in Congress.

9. They taped someone with out telling them and published the tape
Anytime someone talks on camera, you have to get a release form signed by them before you can use the footage.

Also, they used hidden cameras so the people had no way of knowing they were being taped. You need a warrant to do that.

The fact that they used selective editing may be grounds for slander.

So ya, they did some illegal things.
