Condoleezza Rice: "If You Want Another Terrorist Attack In The U.S., Abandon Afghanistan"
Source: Huffington Post

Those in Congress who would like to see the U.S. begin to pull out of Afghanistan don't have a supporter in former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

In a new interview with Fortune Magazine, Rice offered extremely sharp criticism of the idea of withdrawal and painted the consequences of this course of action with an almost Cheneyesque bluntness.

"The last time we left Afghanistan, and we abandoned Pakistan," she said, "that territory became the very territory on which Al Qaeda trained and attacked us on September 11th. So our national security interests are very much tied up in not letting Afghanistan fail again and become a safe haven for terrorists.

"It's that simple," she declared, "if you want another terrorist attack in the U.S., abandon Afghanistan."

74. Destroy Al Qaeda
My experience has been that the U.S. Armed Forces are driven by intelligence reports, no matter whether the reports are accurate or not. The truth is that once the report is given credibility, only by acting on that information is the truth learned. Some times the information says the threat has 40-50 soldiers set in place and when the U.S. force goes in with equal numbers ( more or less ) then learns that the actual count is 0-10 or 90-100, the U.S. force is overwhelming or hit hard with casualties.

Intelligence reports concerning Al Qaeda strength in Afghanistan back in '02-'03 said that the threat of WMD in Iraq were a greater threat than Al Qaeda activities on the ground in Afghanistan, so off we went to Baghdad. So many Al Qaeda forces escaped every muslim extreme nation in the region that Afghanistan became a safe haven to the worst of the islam murderers that soon, they were dug in everywhere by the time new intelligence reports noted the evidence and U.S. leaders finally admitted their mistake ( at least within their own (( Pentegon )) community ) and made some adjustments to add forces in Afghanistan in an attempt to quell any truth to the new reports and buy some time to gather accurate reports, digest the information, form a solution and begin again.

Mean while, inexperienced U.S. soldiers were killed, blown up, crippled, shot, captured and tortured. The horribleness of that fact is not lost on me, however, we must destroy Al Qaeda everywhere it exists and more soldiers will die in defense of our cherished freedom.

Two years ago we didn't know that Wall Street bank owners were gambling our financial stability and employment away, but now we do and we are addressing it. We can't get back the lost but we can and must protect our future for us and the next generation. We must do the same in Afganistan and refuse to let
any Al Qaeda cells on U.S. soil. It is late, but not too late.

John

and were Masquerading as leadership during the last dictatorship.

But it's more fun to live in a fantasy and treat ourselves to a steady diet of "America: FUCK YEAH!"

"Two years ago we didn't know that Wall Street bank owners were gambling our financial stability and employment away, but now we do and we are addressing it.'

Speak for yourself. Many of us did, and were laughed at and mocked every day while the majority of the country continued to believe the constant Media Propaganda that the economy was "Robust, Strong and getting Stronger."

RIGHT UP UNTIL THE DAY OF THE COLLAPSE.

And what did we do to address it?

Why, we bailed out the Criminals, engineered ANOTHER Fake Stock Market Bubble, and The Banksters are back to their old tricks again, preparing to fleece the Public of what they have left, while Helo Ben devalues the currency via monetization and Infinite Printing, while telling us The Recession is over and happy days are here again.

And the American Public?

They are mostly buying it with Both Hands.

My, THINGS SURE ARE CHANGING.

95. Maybe it would have been nice to be in on Cheney's secret energy meetings
It would also have been nice if the public remembered some of *'s remarks BEFORE he was selected. See, daddy would have got a second term if only he started another war, because, everyone knows that war makes a president. Or maybe they should have listened to some of his comments about Iraq. The * administration had every intention of going to war with Iraq, before the election. I knew if he was elected, we'd be in a war, he just needed an excuse.

When the UN is telling the US that there are no WMD's found, but * keeps saying "LALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU." It is the US who tells the UN to get out of Iraq, because they're going to start bombing. And, violent actions taken, especially against civilians, guarantees more recruits for terrorism. You understand that, don't you?

Afghanistan is a sinkhole for any country who attempts to dominate it. It has been that way for centuries. Just ask the previous Soviet Union. So, are we being dismantled like the old Soviet Union by our war profiteering overlords? Because that's what it's looking like to me. As we funnel more and more dollars into these faux wars, our infrastructure, as well as, the people in this country suffer.

And fabricating Condi, the same Condi who got on TV after 9/11 and stated that she couldn't imagine that they'd use planes for an attack. The same Condi who couldn't bother to take notice of a PDB. The same Condi and the rest of the gang, who couldn't bother to listen to anyone from the previous administration, that terrorism would be their number one issue. And, the same Condi, who was out buying shoes while NO drowned.

You want to get rid of terrorism--CUT OFF THE FUNDS!!!! But, oh no, never gonna happen. Because, I bet, some of the greediest corps of the world are making major profits off of the "war on the terrorized." It's as simple as that, cut their money. Under Clinton, I believe, they attempted to pass a bill to follow the money, but the REPUG congress voted it down.

8. Actually, Condi, wasn't it the Saudis that attacked us on 9/11?
And the UAE? 15 of the attackers came from Saudi Arabia, 2 came from the UAE.

17 of the 19 attackers came from countries that are either friends and business partners of the Bush family or connected with Cheney's Halliburton. That's 89%.

Perhaps we should have attacked them instead? Or perhaps you should have made sure Bush read the August 6 PDB and made sure he understood what it meant...

"Indoctrination", on the other hand, is no doubt going on at a lot of international locations, and has surely been greatly facilitated by the actions of the Bush (not only) regimes.

US Spec Ops operates psywar websites targeted at UK

As far as we can tell we aren't one of them
By Lewis Page

The secretive US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) has awarded arms globocorp General Dynamics a $10m contract to set up a network of psychological-warfare "influence websites" supporting the Global War On Terror. France and Britain are specifically included as "targeted regions".

SOCOM is principally famous for its large contingents of elite, secret operatives from all four US armed services (Navy SEALs, Green Berets, Delta Force, Team-6/DevGru, "the Activity" etc etc). What's less well-known about the organisation is that it also includes the US forces' active psychological-warfare apparatus. According (pdf) to the 4th Airborne Psychological Operations Group - the only full-time psywar unit in the US Army, and part of SOCOM:

"PSYOP is the dissemination of truthful information to foreign audiences in support of US policy... these activities are not forms of force, but are force multipliers that use nonviolent means in often violent environments... they rely on logic, fear, desire or other mental factors... The ultimate objective of US military psychological operations is to convince enemy, neutral, and friendly nations and forces to take action favorable to the United States...
Their purpose can range from gaining support for US operations to preparing the battlefield for combat."

Now SOCOM's Joint Military Information Support Command, which "orchestrates a 24/7 multi-media campaign formatted to the cultures and languages of relevant audiences" in "what has become a tough, entrenched war of ideas" has deployed what it calls the Trans-Regional Web Initiative (TRWI). Specs on the programme were issued last year (pdf) and earlier this month General Dynamics was awarded $10,116,177 to run the Initiative for the first year.

upon receiving that PDB for Bush to contact all the major airlines and stepped up all security, installed air-marshals like they did afterwards, fitting the cockpit doors with a lock that could be operated by the attendants, or having them locked before takeoff as they are now, I believe. Don't know much about it, but it doesn't seem like it would have been that hard. Which is a horrible shame.

26. How many attacks on Russian soil have happened since they left?
Answer: Zero

When our government learns to keep their corporate-collective noses out of other countries business, then those people will look at the US more favorably.

In my opinion, attacking Afghanistan was more about their failure to negotiate pipeline agreements than about our security as, it has been pointed out here, the so called 9/11 terrorists (if you believe the CIA version of this) were mainly from Saudi Arabia not Afghanistan.

Afghanistan and Iraq are bottomless money pits into which our government is dumping money so Dick Cheney and his friends can get richer and richer, meanwhile we are told we cannot afford health care for American taxpayers that are paying for all of this.

Duh!

47. re-wrong
Russia has a huge problem with outlying regions of the old empire and former soviet union, specifically in the caucuses region, and that problem is not directly related to their failed efforts in afghanistan, predates by almost two centuries the soviet union, and was suppressed by sheer brutality (e.g. the deportation of the entire population) by one J. Stalin in efforts that kept down any nationalist movements for decades. The closest you can get to a connection is that the people of Afghanistan and Chechnya and Ingushetia etc are muslims and fiercely nationalistic.

The Taliban has not attacked Russia (nor did they attack us of course) nor has Al Qaeda.

58. WTF you made an assertion that was false
and a-historical. Now you've backed off from that and instead have attempted to align me somehow with Dick Cheney.

Russia's historic problem in the caucuses has NOTHING to do with Afghanistan, and their pulling out of Afghanistan did not cause unrest in the caucuses aside from the withdrawal and the collapse of the soviet union being somewhat linked. The collapse of the USSR allowed for the renewal of nationalist movements across the former Russian empire and soviet client states. There is no case supporting Dick Cheney and his sidekick Rice that can be made out of the failed USSR experience in Afghanistan that our withdrawal from Afghanistan will result in attacks from taliban or al qaeda forces. Such claims are just more neocon bullshit.

40. Here's how to get another terrorist attack in the U.S.
1. Ignore FBI warnings that people are training to only fly planes in American pilot schools.

2. Ignore CIA warnings that terrorists are planning a strike in the United States using planes.

3. Ignore reports from the previous administration on terrorism.

4. Ignore advisors who insist that a terror attack is imminent.

5. Go shoe shopping. (Oh, I'm sorry, that's how you respond to an American city being wiped off the face of the Earth)

46. Anti - Al Qaeda offensives must continue!
C. Rice is absolutely correct in her assessment of Afghanistan and Al Qaeda.

Al Qaeda terrorists are being challenged by U.S. and allied armed forces in
Afghanistan which forces Al Qaeda to focus their resources to protect their
mountains, caves and ( centuries old ) hole in the ground hidouts. Al Qaeda
cannot allow their home-based hideouts to be lost, period.

In the interim, Al Qaeda resources to attack U.S. and other free nation sites
are limited and their deadly intentions against all people who don't give in
to their selfish demands, are curtailed.

Until a more direct ( and final ) response against Al Qaeda can be developed
and implemented, for self defense sake, we must keep them occupied, or else.

New York and the rest of the world know what "or else" means ( more Al Qaeda
attacks on defenseless citizens who don't even realize that they have been
targeted and are being stalked for mass murder and mahem ).

We had to fight to get freedom and we have fight to keep freedom. The only
way to keep Al Qaeda terrorists off of our land is to destroy ALL of THEIR
resources on THEIR land. If we don't destroy Al Qaeda now, Al Qaeda will be
attacking US tomorrow.

Our next generation, our children and our grand children, will be the target
of Al Qaeda too, if WE survive. We have to finish Al Qaeda now, period.

96. you mean the Al Qaeda that we basically created?
That Al Qaeda? Al Qaeda that Bhutto warned us that it would bite us in the butt? I remember clearly on 9/11--I remember an immigration official who was interviewed on TV stating that certain citizens coming from SA were not to be given the thorough investigation before coming into this country. The order came from above. Now, I wish I would have recorded all of the interviews coming out right after 9/11. And then, there were those from the House of Saud and Bin Ladens who were allowed to fly out of this country right after that fateful day.

Those hijackers were mainly from the SA. And look what * gave to Bin Laden. He closed one of our bases in SA that Bin Laden didn't approve, he got rid of Saddam who Bin Laden hated. Also, our wars have been a great recruiting tool for guess who? And, who has been crossing over into Iraq and causing some of those attacks against civilians? Why, per a terrorist expert, it's SA. And what role did Pakistan play? Remember the general from Pakistan who allegedly wired money to Atta? And, why did we forgive our debt to Pakistan?

Just some questions, I'd like answered. This reality is starting to look more like the film "Brazil."

67. PNACese, translated: "If you pull out of Afghanistan, the oil and defense industries,
(by the way, did you know that I actually have a great big oil tanker named after me?) will be denied the enormous unlimited profits to which they are accustomed during wartime. No one has ever been able to conquer Afghanistan - that makes this war a bloody inexhaustible gold mine, let me tell you!(heavy breathing, orgasmic moaning) Oh, sorry, where was I? Oh, yeah - And do you have any idea how much planning it took to pull off 9/11 and the subsequent wars without anyone in the PNAC or the Bu*h administration getting prosecuted? It would be sheer genius if the American people weren't such gullible sheep. Just because I was the head National Security Advisor when 9/11 occurred doesn't mean I failed at the job. (Hell, we made so much money on it all, only a stupid liberal would argue that it wasn't an enormous success - different value systems and all that, ya know :wink :). So don't even think about ending these wars that we spent so much time orchestrating, or it'll be much more spectacular this time, if you catch my drift."

90. No, actually the cure is much less black and white and substantially harder
First, we need to get Israel to stop encroaching on others territory. That is going to be a bitch of a hard thing to get them to do. Then we need to get them to stop banging on their chests. And then we all need to show a couple of generations of the Middle Easterners that we aren't trying to destroy them. Eventually, the children of the children of the children might decide to quit with all that jihadist crap. But none of us wants to go for such a long term fix so it will continue, as you say, like pop-a-mole. We've tried force and it's been shown not to work. Now we need to try caring and not being assholes. Might work and certainly couldn't hurt.
