Bush's economic team sets out to raise hopes
MILWAUKEE (July 29, 9:20 a.m. ADT)

President Bush's economic team took to the road on Tuesday to predict that the president's new tax package would help boost economic growth significantly in the second half of the year.

Treasury Secretary John Snow, Commerce Secretary Don Evans and Labor Secretary Elaine Chao began a "Jobs and Growth" bus tour with a stop at a Harley Davidson motorcycle factory in a Milwaukee suburb. The trio planned a series of such stops across Wisconsin and Minnesota over the next two days as they seek to bolster confidence in the face of an unemployment rate that has hit a 9-year high as the recovery from the 2001 recession has remains lackluster. ---

--- "You can really sense the economy gaining steam as you talk to people across America.... There are just many, many positive signs out there."

But even as the tour was getting under way, the latest Conference Board survey showed that consumers lost confidence in their economic prospects in July, resulting in a sharp, unexpected drop in sentiment. ---

3. They are in denial or just really bad liars.
"You can really sense the economy gaining steam as you talk to people across America.... There are just many, many positive signs out there."

I have yet to read one positive sign about the economy. What are they talking about?

4. Cheerleaders
Instead of the economic team working on trying to get the economy going, they are touring the country as Bush's* Economic Cheerleaders.

Out of work? RAH,RAH,RAH.

Massive deficits? RAH,RAH,RAH.

Things'll get better. RAH,RAH,RAH,

Just wait and see. RAH,RAH,RAH

6. This sort of thing is always a mistake.
If things are getting better you don't have to tell people that they know it already. This kind of road show gibberish only reminds people of how bad things are. Besides they have been calling for blue skys for 3 years now.

:hippie:

13. maybe it'll be like WMD's?
... where the bush* toadies expect the public to be satisfied with "evidence of a program", rather than the real goods?

whatever happened to the so-called "reformer with results" that bush* was supposed to be, during the 2000 campaign?

we can see what "results" he got. deficits up, unemployment up, bankruptcies up, stocks down. tax cuts for the rich, pay cuts for the working people.

14. "Pretzeldent's 'economic team' on disaster containment tour."
The biggest disaster they're trying to contain is the rightly held opinion that the economy is IN THE TANK.

BTW, shouldn't the labor secretary be worried about labor instead of Presidential promotion? More than 3 million jobs lost, many permanently....hello?
