No support for Sanford among members of state House GOP caucus
Source: Charleston Post & Courier

MYRTLE BEACH — Not a single member of the House Republican Caucus spoke in Gov. Mark Sanford’s favor Saturday during an impeachment discussion.

More than 55 members of the caucus gathered in this oceanfront city for an annual organizational session that ended with 45 minutes of call after call for the embattled governor to resign or be impeached.

Sanford repeatedly has said he will not resign.

House Speaker Bobby Harrell, a Charleston Republican, resisted calls from members to circulate a caucus letter to urge Sanford to step down or begin immediate impeachment action. Harrell said he wants the caucus to wait until a State Ethics Commission investigation is complete to ensure that impeachment proceedings would be based on fact.

4. Supposedly, the Lt. Governor is an even bigger loser than Sanford, so
the SC GOP is between a rock and a hard place.

9. Since the missus and the kids moved out of the governor's mansion,
I hope he brings his Argentinian hottie home to live with him.

If he's gonna stick his finger in their eye, he might as well do it in style.

Bunch of hypocrites, the lot of them.

13. You might need the laughs,
but I hate having to pay this asshole's salary. He's as useless as tits on a boar hog, and we're paying him to sit around mooning and moaning about his "soul mate". He hasn't hit a lick at a snake since he got back from hiking the Argentinian Tail.

The state is broke, we have one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation, the schools are either falling apart or closing due to lack of funding, educational achievement is deplorable, and affordable health care is a joke.

Meanwhile, this multi-millionaire Bozo leaves the state without putting the Lt Gov. in charge or telling anyone how to contact him, lies about his whereabouts, bangs his mistress on the public dime, breaks any law he doesn't agree with, puts his kids in private schools, but doesn't give a damn about the rest of the children in SC, and refuses to resign because as a member of the "Family", he's been chosen by gawd to lead.

His arrogance, hubris, and condescending disregard and disdain for his constituents is stupifying.

My cat could do a better job of leading the state than this fool. He IS a clown, but I'm not laughing until this circus folds it's tents and moves on.

14. Maybe you can convince a few of your neighbors to give Democrats a chance.
They've seen pretty clearly what Republicans do.

18. I saw a chart somewhere,
probably on DU, that showed SC as being vunerable to being picked off by the Dems. It never ceases to amaze me, though, as to the number of people who will vote against their own self interests just to tow the party line.

I'm beginning to think more and more that the republican base is suffering from "Stockholm syndrome". They are so brainwashed.

Growing up, I could never understand how anyone could follow Hitler, but now I get it, and it scares the bejebus out of me.

19. I think they're more like religious followers.
Or sports fans. Maybe both. 'Go team! I'm yer fan no matter what! Cause I believe!'

15. Well, you're probably the type who would have criticized King David for
committing adultery and killing the husband of the object of his desire, not to mention having a hareem.

Leave God's annointed alone, willya? You don't seem to understand that the Bible has one set of rules for them and an entirely different set for those of us He didn't call to be rich and powerful leaders.

:sarcasm:

Great summary, but you forgot to mention King Sanford's battle over refusing federal stimulus money.

But seriously, I am sorry you have to live under Sanford, as does a good friend. (BTW, his cover up staff seems pretty amoral, too.)

I am also sorry that his replacement, if any, is reported to be as bad or worse.

17. You know me better than I know myself!
King David always did piss me off! So did that jerk, the Prodigal Son, and I'm not too thrilled about St Paul, either, but I digress!

Thanks for your condolences. They're greatly appreciated.

I actually don't think Bauer is as bad as Sanford. He did some stupid, arrogant stuff when he was younger, but I haven't heard anything negative since he had that "come to Jeebus meeting" when his plane crashed.

He admitted he'd had time to do some serious soul searching and that he'd done some stupid things. He also said he viewed his survival as an opportunity to change his life around. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until I hear otherwise.

As far as I'm concerned, we'd could do better with NO governor for the next 16mos. than with what we've got now.

Since Mark has managed to turn the entire state into a junk yard, I just wish we'd have elected Fred Sanford instead. At least we'd be making a profit, 'cause THAT man knew how to run a junk yard!

...or something like that.

20. Power must be the most addictive thing in the world. It's amazing how many politicians
who have refused to step down, even in the face of the-fat-lady-has-sung reality.

The arrogance of it all. To think he can actually still retain his seat and govern well, after the bizarre things he's done and the investigations about him? Power must be a strong addiction.
