GOP Rep. Trent Franks Considering Obama Citizenship Lawsuit
Source: HuffPost

At a health care town hall this weekend, Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) said he might file a lawsuit to have the president release his birth certificate. The Mohave Daily News reports:

(N)umerous speakers question(ed) Obama's birth certificate and why there wasn't an investigation into whether he is a naturalized citizen. One woman said a newspaper announcement of his birth in Hawaii was not sufficient. Another asked how he could have a passport without a birth certificate.

Franks said there was not enough evidence that Obama is not an American citizen. He did say there was a lot of conflicting evidence of Obama's citizenship and that he was considering filing a lawsuit, the only congressman to do so. Franks asked why the president did not simply produce a birth certificate.

...

The Washington Independent's Dave Weigel points out that Franks' bold move is particularly surprising given that Franks has previously made a clear statement to guerilla video-blogger Mike Stark that the president was born in the United States and had a valid birth certificate.

5. That's just what these haters want.
While disgusted with them, too, I would rather they use up all the oxygen in the room than to give into them.

9. That Will Only Feed The Idiots - Believe It Or Not

The birthers have moved well beyond "he was born in Kenya".

What they are on about these days is a new definition of "natural born citizen" which, based on ignoring a lot of law and embracing a certain Swiss political philosopher, they have re-defined to require two citizen parents.

The whole "birth certificate" thing with them is entirely beside the point. They just want to have their claims elevated to the level of serious debate, as if there were one.

24. Legally, it is.
I requested a certified copy of my birth certificate and I got a "Certificate of Birth" which does not look exactly like my original "Birth Registration Certificate" but legally, it's the same. The raised seal means the state government has certified the existence of a birth record. They can't give you a copy of something that doesn't exist.

That's what makes their "outrage" over Obama's certificate so ridiculous. The "Certificate of Live Birth" was issued by the state of Hawaii. The fact that they even issued that certificate to him PROVES there is a birth certificate registered with the state.

Or maybe not, if he decides it isn't worth shit to file such a lawsuit - every other such suit has been dismissed by the courts as frivolous, without merit, and with malice.

20. produce a birth certififcate?
He's already produced the legally acceptable short form, verified by the head of Hawaii's whatever it is that issues birth certificates, who also said he'd looked at the long form and it was valid. What they say they want is the long form, which likely includes personal medical info about Obama's mother's medical condition, which is none of their business.

But actually that's not what they want, since as has been noted previously in this thread, they're reeling off into a new (illegal) definition of what a natural born citizen is, postulating his Mom smuggling him into Hawaii, etc. Anything to avoid having, horrors, a Black guy as President.

Who was it who said never to engage in a battle of wits with the unarmed? This whole thing is good only for entertainment value and to make the Repugs look ridiculous. Plus polls show the majority of Americans don't give a flying leap about this.

35. Unfortunately, here in Ark., there was poll results on NPR, but I cannot
find the story, but, it said that only 29% of the people in Ark. say that he is a US citizen + 60% of respondents state that Rush Limbaugh has a better vision for the country vs. Obama. :puke: :wtf: :grr: :scared:  . Do you know how freakin' embarrasing this is - that more people that SC believe he is an immigrant!!! Jeez, why do I stay here? As soon as I find the story, I'll post the link.

22. What these nutbags really want
They want the President to admit that he is black and that as a black man he is not worthy of the office he holds.

These pieces of shit are thinly cloaked racist agitators - no amount of "proof" will ever satisfy them.

23. So why didn't the GOP produce the "evidence" to guarantee a McCain win?
Edited on Mon Aug-24-09 02:30 PM by BattyDem

If Barack Obama was not born in this country, there would be a record of it somewhere in the government files. I don't care how good the supposed "cover-up" was ... there is no way the Dunhams or Obama, Sr. could have scrubbed passport records, naturalization records, etc. They didn't have that kind of power.

During the 2008 campaign, the GOP controlled the WH, which meant they controlled the Pentagon, the CIA, the FBI, the DoJ, the NSA, ICE, Homeland Security and every other department or agency related to the US Government. They also had plenty of connections with foreign governments and intelligence agencies. If there was even the slightest possibility that Barack Obama was born in another country, the GOP would have produced the proof just before the election. They didn't do that. Do you know why? BECAUSE YOU CAN'T PROVE SOMETHING THAT NEVER HAPPENED!!! :grr: :banghead: :eyes:

"He did say there was a lot of conflicting evidence of Obama's citizenship and that he was considering filing a lawsuit, the only congressman to do so. Franks asked why the president did not simply produce a birth certificate."

Really? What evidence is that? Name one piece of "conflicting" evidence. I'm not talking about the crap the right-wing nutjobs made up, I'm talking about REAL evidence, such as government documents, hospital records or a sworn statement by someone who was present during his birth.

One more thing ... Obama DID produce a birth certificate. A "Certificate of Live Birth" is a valid, legal birth certificate. When I needed a copy of my birth certificate, I was given a "Certificate of Birth" and I can use it to get a driver's license, passport, social security card or any other government document I need. But you already know that, don't you? You're just another pathetic loser who enjoys stirring up the shit! :puke:
