Gunman is holed up in Howell barn
Valerie Olander / The Detroit News

Howell -- The Livingston County Sheriff Department is sending in an armored vehicle to rescue two adults and two children trapped inside a barn not far from where a barricaded gunman is holed up with an M-16 fully automatic weapon and other weapons, according to Sheriff Bob Bezotte.

"He has not threatened anyone yet," he said.

He is inside another barn on Burkhart Road, between Marr Road and Warner. The barn where others are located are within 40 yards, Bezotte said.

The man, who Bezotte identified as Wesley Gilson, operates ProSoldier, a military training company contracted by the U.S. Army.

15. This calls for Bloodhound Gang Lyrics!
"Like that episode where Gilligan gets sick of being teased
And he breaks into the Professor's lab and makes some LSD
Peaks freaks and eats the Skipper's brains then beats Ginger with coconuts
As Mr. Howell and Lovey burn alive inside their grass hut
Oh he'll kill again that Gilligan they he should of let him be
And like a postal clerk I'll go beserk if you don't stop teasing me
See the trick is only pick on those that can't do you no harm
Like the drummer from Def Leppard's only got one arm"

6. They got him

A gunman who was barricaded in a barn on Burkhart Road in Howell has been shot and apprehended by police around 2:20 p.m. Emergency personel are treating the suspect now.

The five people who were held up in a nearby barn are safe — two of them were toddlers.

The suspect, Wesley Gilson, is the President and CEO of ProSoldier in Howell according to Livingston County Sherrif Bob Bezotte.

Gilson was held up in a 4,000-square-foot barn on Burkhart Road between Marr and Warner roads, the sheriff said. Five people, two adults and three children, were in the line of fire between the gunman and police, in a nearby 10-foot by 10-foot barn.

Police believed one of the five people in the side barn was Gilson’s wife.

Bezotte said Gilson is going through a divorce and is under heavy medication.

The sheriff said police first arrived at the scene for a potential overdose. Gilson was taking muscle relaxers and OxyContin, Bezotte said.

Bezotte said police were on scene when Gilson ordered everyone off the property and brandished the handgun. He then went to get his M-16, according to the sheriff.

Gilson has just returned from Iraq and is a contractor of the U.S. Army and Bezotte said he is very proficient with weapons.

61. 'Professional Warrior'
ProSoldier is a local company dedicated to enhancing professional warrior’s ability to move, shoot and communicate.

They print that in a news story as if it were nothing. That is a story in itself. When did it become okay to train 'professional warriors' which really means 'mercenaries' other than the military?

And how many of these 'professional warriors' are there, paid for by our tax dollars without the knowledge of the general population. And now it looks like they are using their skills against anyone who pisses them off a little.

The acceptance of mercenaries is outrageous. When it was first discovered that 'civilian contractors' meant 'mercenaries' and that the 'money for the troops' was going to pay them, far more than the troops were being paid, there was at least some outrage. Now, have we just accepted this vile practice even after learning about the murders in Iraq?

Maybe it WILL take a tragedy right here before Americans rise up against these private armies of killers living among them. I hope not, but America rarely sees the murder of foreigners as a reason to get outraged over. Sadly, it has to affect them personally before anything is done and by then it's too late.

a whack job. The procedures the government uses to see if you're a security risk are a bad joke, and have been for a long time. The problem is, much like the ineffective and invasive procedures at airports executed by the TSA, they make people feel safe, so they won't change them.

...sounds like the guy is dead. The family is traumatized. He put police officers in danger.

Another day of random violence in the USA.
