Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni enjoy holiday at first lady's mansion

President Nicolas Sarkozy appeared to be putting his health problems behind him yesterday as he enjoyed a holiday swim with his wife, Carla Bruni.

As he waited for his 41-year-old wife to slip into the sea for a morning swim, the fitness-conscious French president held his stomach in as tight he could. Mrs Bruni-Sarkozy entered the water in a large hat, sunglasses, black bikini and a pair of flippers. Once they were both in the water the couple were seen kissing, rather than taking part in any vigorous exercise.

On Friday they learnt they are to become grandparents for the first time, news which perhaps also prompted Mr Sarkozy to slow down a bit, avoiding his usual holiday routine of jogging and taking long cycle rides.
