DeMint: Americans will 'take to the street' on healthcare
Source: The Hill

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), who said healthcare could be President Obama's Waterloo, said Sunday he thinks Americans will "take to the street" to protest Democratic-led healthcare reform in August.
"What's going to happen is, you're going to see Americans take to the street in August, and go to their congressmen's office, and they're going to go to town halls, and I think they're going to let congressmen and senators know that they need to keep their hands off their health care," DeMint said on Fox News Sunday.

Two weeks ago, Democrats jumped on DeMint's claim that stopping healthcare would be akin to Waterloo, renewing accusations that Republicans want the country to fail. President Obama even mentioned DeMint's comments in a prime time press conference.

On Sunday, DeMint warned the Democratic plan would lead to a single-payer system akin to healthcare plans in Europe and Canada.

Americans, said DeMint, "know it's going to cut Medicare. They know it's going to raise taxes on the small businesses that create jobs. And they know it's going to eliminate jobs across the country."

Republicans bring NOTHING to the table except tawdry lies and manipulation, while clawing against their own white-knuckled fear that Americans will demand, and receive, universal single payer health care for all.

Republicans, the cold, bleak wilderness awaits you.

They prolly will take to the meetings as disruptors and get plenty of "Liberal Media" coverage as if there are millions of them out there to protest obama.
I hope we arent getting caught with our pants down, while they organize a very loud opposition.

18. Bingo.
Teabaggers (maybe we can call them IV-baggers?) are apparently about to hit the streets en masse (what little "masse" they have outside of what the lunatic-fringe owned M$M does to exaggerate about them) to disrupt.

These people are the poorest losers that one can ever imagine. :eyes: And people wonder why Obama & Axelrod and crew are still in "campaign mode" because that is the only way to squash their nonsense. The Dems. can't sit on it and hope it blows over. This is not election year, but it is also no time to sit back and relax. It will behoove them to grab the message and run with it before these lunatics do.

10. Yup. And they'll try to instigate more disruption.
They're going to be bussing in people to creating "protests" at congressional offices, town halls, etc.

It probably won't be too hard to find unemployed people willing to act against their own future interests for some desperately needed immediate cash.

46. If they arrive at your town hall, go with friends and stand
up with your friends and sing The Star-Spangled Banner. Get the supporters of the health care reform to sing with you. It is unpatriotic to scream and yell over the singing of The Star-Spangled Banner. Singing causes people to feel quite inside. That's what we should do. Go to these events in large enough numbers and with a couple of singers with good voices.

42. That is SO true...
My husband is convinced that this stems from irrational fear that someone will get something for nothing - like welfare. "I've got mine but you don't get yours because you're lazy and don't work and I pulled myself up by the bootstraps etc. etc." It may also be fear that illegal brown people may get health care and legal white people will have to pay for it.

http://www.newsweek.com/id/209817 - I think EVERYONE who is against reform should watch this. A friend of mine found it. It's excellent. All of us are THIS CLOSE to financial ruin without health insurance...

I keep forgetting about it. I'd really like to see it.

I've worked in hospitals since 1971. There is a huge naiveté amongst the general public regarding hospitals. I'm sure I will be shocked but not particularly surprised about Michael Moore's film. Thanks for reminding me about it.

orchestrated by national Republican operatives. There was a memo mentioned recently outlining the "tactics". This isn't local, grass roots discussion and debate - which is the supposed standard when Reps go to their home districts and meet with local voters.

30. My rep (Eric Paulson, R-MN) is doing his townhalls via conference call
Too gutless to risk the chance that their own tactics will be turned against them?

I can't help but think that this strategy will backfire on them. I cannot see this helping to change the minds of Dems who already are supporting health care reform because the cat's out of the bag. I would think it would just make them more resolved to get their way. It might just make the Blue Dogs mad enough to jump out of their Republican cohorts' beds. And since none of the Republicans were going to vote for it anyway, there's no loss there.

legitimate protests during August at town halls/congressional offices by Americans who want single payer health care for everyone. He's blowing his dog whistle for the rabid base to emerge, disrupt, scream about *socialism*, *elderly euthanasia*, the *liberal media* and anything else in their racist, small minds. There's no doubt about it.

Edited on Sun Aug-02-09 06:40 PM by nikto
There's a heck of a lot more of US (FOR single payer) than against.

It's like 73% FOR, and most of the rest probably don't understand SP,
or they'd likely support it.

So even that 27% left over is not monolithically against SP HC---Only SOME of them.

WE have the overwhelming numbers on OUR side!!!!!

Take to the streets? Good idea.

Thanks, Jim!!

Because once people see what it's REALLY like, they're going to barbecue every Congressman/Senator who voted against it. Maybe they'll have those barbecues in the streets, just like DeMint says.

So, it's IMPERATIVE to Repubs and Blue Dogs that a public option or single-payer system MUST NOT come to pass.
