Lou Dobbs A "Publicity Nightmare" For CNN: AP
Source: Associated Press

AP -- He's become a publicity nightmare for CNN, embarrassed his boss and hosted a show that seemed to contradict the network's "no bias" brand. And on top of all that, his ratings are slipping.

How does Lou Dobbs keep his job?

It's not a simple answer. CNN insists it is standing behind Dobbs, despite calls for his head from critics of his reporting on "birthers" - those who believe President Barack Obama wasn't born in the United States despite convincing evidence to the contrary. The "birthers" believe Obama was born in Kenya, and thus not eligible to be president.

Dobbs' work has been so unpopular that even Ann Coulter has criticized him.

Dobbs has acknowledged that he believes Obama was born in Hawaii. But he gives airtime to disbelievers, and has said the president should try to put questions fully to rest by releasing a long version of his birth certificate. He's twice done stories on his show after the public leak of a memo from CNN U.S. President Jon Klein saying that "it seems this story is

1. CNN is concerned about the integrity of their 'no bias' brand?
This from the network that first gave Glenn Beck airtime?

And after giving Dobbs a free rein to sputter his xenophobic anti-immigration screed for years, they're suddenly concerned about 'integrity' because he provides a platform for birthers? Top management at that network really has a tenuous grip on reality!

Fox "News" took him on knowing full well what they were getting.

4. Just my take, but I think Lou Dobbs should be shown the door
at CNN, not hired elsewhere, and banished from the village altogether.

He's a right wing tool from the word go. They can give his time slot to a lot of other better journalists and commentators.

from very, very far away and taken there and left there.

7. They should take his red stapler away and move him to the basement
Slipping ratings... isn't Ed Schultz in competition?

I believe Ed's ratings are going up, that could also explain why this retard on CNN is losing ground.

They should move Rick Sanchez up and Lou Dobbs down.

When you want to get rid of someone but can't, due to contract or union obligation, you usually give him the "Milton Treatment".

First you take his stapler, then you move him to the basement.

8. So CBS fires Dan Rather for reporting using documents that were never proven false.
But these retards can make any claims they want and never have to worry about getting fired.

Fair and balanced, liberal media my ass.

12. I'm concerned by all those rumors that Dobbs is a closet Nazi. Why won't he put them to rest?
I certainly don't have any reason to think that Dobbs is a closet Nazi, but why doesn't he just stop the rumors once and for all by providing definitive proof that he's not?

CNN wouldn't know a "publicity nightmare" if it
smelled like soup and bit them on the ass!

22. "convincing evidence to the contrary" and "he believes Obama was born in Hawaii"
Edited on Sun Aug-02-09 03:02 PM by PSPS
CNN insists it is standing behind Dobbs, despite calls for his head from critics of his reporting on "birthers" - those who believe President Barack Obama wasn't born in the United States despite convincing evidence to the contrary.

The correct way to word that is "those who wrongly believe President Barack Obama wasn't born in the United States." This wording was an AP editor's deliberate decision. "Convincing evidence to the contrary" implies that, while "convincing," it may not be true.

Dobbs has acknowledged that he believes Obama was born in Hawaii.

This isn't a quote from Dobbs, but if Dobbs were really wanting to put this to rest, this line wouldn't have included the phrase "he believes," which implies it is merely a "belief" which is open to legitimate challenge, like a "belief" in god.

AP has apparently been enlisted to keep this silliness going. I presume this is because CNN buys a lot of advertising in the newspapers that are AP customers.

This whole thing has turned into yet another media circus, like the WWF, where the "controversy" is entirely manufactured for the sole purpose of attracting more (stupid) viewers and, thus, making more money on the ads they run.

brand in over a decade.

Like Fox with Beck, CNN is trying to have it both ways. CNN is keeping Dobbs and the advertising dollars Dobbs brings CNN, while publicly attempting to distance itself from him.

Well, you can't disassociate yourself from your own show hosts unless you fire them.

Meanwhile, they get publicity for a "no bias" brand that doesn't exist.

What bs.
