Democrats Slow Work on Health Bill

By ROBERT PEAR and DAVID M. HERSZENHORN
Published: July 21, 2009

WASHINGTON — Fiscally conservative House Democrats forced leaders of their party on Tuesday to slow the pace of work on legislation to overhaul the health care system to consider their concerns about the cost of the bill, its expansion of federal power and
and the contours of a proposed new government health insurance plan.

The fiscal conservatives, members of the House Blue Dog Coalition, pressed their concerns on President Obama at a White House meeting. The chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Representative Henry A. Waxman, Democrat of California, postponed a session of the panel, scheduled for Tuesday, so he could meet with Blue Dogs, who hold 8 seats on the committee, a potentially decisive number, since the panel includes 36 Democrats and 23 Republicans.

3. After countless sell-outs by the Democratic party, I recently changed ...
...my party affiliation to "no-party". Obama's breath-taking record of betrayal was the final straw. I think old age and experience tends to lead one to see things as they really are and to question/abandon long-held beliefs and affiliations. Religion was the first casualty. The Democratic party followed more recently. Both organizations' leaders consist primarily of snake-oil salesmen in the business of conning people for their own gain.

I think most people are basically good, and that many organizations (like the ACLU, Amnesty International, and many others) try to make the world a better place. But, unfortunately, the same can no longer be said about the Democratic party. Judging by the comments here, I suspect that many posters are as fed up as I am, and I wonder if DU staff have considered changing the name of this site from "Democratic-Underground" to something else. The "Democratic" part of the name is beginning to carry the same kind of stench as the word "Republican", and I suspect that loyalties here truly lie primarily with the progressive ideals, which are, by and large, completely at odds with what the Democratic party has become.

4. Sold out by "our own" once again.
Somehow, I'm not surprised.
