| Cheating SC gov says God will make him better |
 |
Source: Associated Press< snip> "South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, still clinging to office after admitting to an extramarital affair, wrote in an opinion piece released Sunday that God will change him so he can emerge from the scandal a more humble and effective leader. "(W)hile none of us has the chance to attend our own funeral, in many ways I feel like I was at my own in the past weeks, and surprisingly I am thankful for the perspective it has afforded," Sanford wrote in the opinion piece distributed statewide for Sunday newspapers. Sanford, a two-term Republican, returned from a mysterious, nearly weeklong disappearance last month to reveal a romance with a longtime friend in Argentina. In a series of Associated Press interviews, he described the woman as his "soul mate" but said he would work to repair his relationship with his wife, Jenny, the mother of their four sons. Some lawmakers have called for Sanford to resign, and one state senator plans hearings on whether state money was used to facilitate the trysts. A criminal probe found nothing illegal. Sanford and his wife left the state earlier this week for an undisclosed location and are expected to return Sunday evening, spokesman Joel Sawyer said." This is "very damaging stuff," Sanford declared at one point, when details of Clinton's conduct became known. "I think it would be much better for the country and for him personally (to resign)... I come from the business side," he said. "If you had a chairman or president in the business world facing these allegations, he'd be gone."
Explaining his decision to back impeachment articles against Clinton, he added, "I think what he did in this matter was reprehensible... I feel very comfortable with my vote."

Except for the ones like Sanford, who attack millions of American families for their own sexuality. Sanford shouts 'one man and one woman' not me. He does that. Sanford was also one of the most vicious and loud attackers of Bill Clinton for having an one off with Monica. He spewed on and on about marriage vows and oaths and all about how a man who cheats on his wife can not be trusted in office. Sanford said all of that and more. He should simply be held to the standards he holds forth for others. His own fucking standards. He's the one who pretends to be a Sanctified Straight, in a Sacred bond created by God Himself, a union so holy and glorious that he has to make sure GLBT people can not have equal rights under the law. It is also him who made his 'Sacrament' into a public laughing stock. He's got a wife and a soul mate, Praise the Lord for abundance! So what do you actually say about Sanford's meddling in the private lives of others? Our loves, our sexualities? Do you really see not hypocrisy there? Of course you do, but you want to pretend this is about Sanford being a Free Love proponent or something, even as Sanford spouts off some more about God's plan. Can not have it both ways. If he shut up and apologized, he could be free to go have as many soul mates as God can lead to his door, I do not give a shit. But he will not be allowed to attack others while living by his own freehand standards, you'd best believe it.

the sin of pride. Will you NEVER learn?
I just finished talking with God, who said he heard about you when you were busy bashing Clinton for his getting blown in the Oval Office. God said that was a little something he sent Bill, just to relieve the pressure of the office. God told me he offered the same thing to George W. Bush, but George didn't know what a blowjob was, so God decided to ignore him after that.
God told me he sent you that nice Argentinian lady so that you could explore your Inner Bottom. See, God knows that you'd find utter and total sexual joy and fulfillment when you finally got together with a woman who understood, and was willing to take care of, your deep, deep need to be dominated, and not just by a wife who was also your campaign manager.
He knew how much you loved it, finally finding a woman who met your twisted dominance needs.
That's why He yanked her from you.
Do you want to know a secret?
God was going to give her back to you, and you and she were going to have the Ultimate Happy Ending, but you had to go and open your big mouth in all the wrong ways, and then dig in and announce you weren't going to resign, and just blather on in your own, egotistical, self-involved way that really annoyed God.
That's when He decided that you can't have her back.
Mark, Mark, Mark, you went so far off the track, even God had some trouble finding you, but He told me that the Celestial Sonar doesn't work as well south of the Equator (don't tell anyone about this - it really fucks up that "omnipotent" image God's trying to cultivate).
Now, He's been watching you and Ensign and Pickering and all you closet cases from the C Street mental ward, and He's really disgusted with the bunch of you. He's not going to do anything with you, Mark. God doesn't care about you any more. That's your continuing sin of Pride speaking, when you announce that "God will make you better."
You just don't get it. All you sexually twisted white guys have to pay the price now. For you, it's going to be ongoing disclosure and humiliation, coupled with the irrevocable fact that your Argentinian lover is gone from you - forever.
So much for your soulmate.
All you've got now is a wife - another of God's truly great inventions - and yours is pissed.
God told me to tell you that Coburn is in a category by himself, and God has his eye on him........................

it surprises anybody anymore when a politician is found to be cheating. It surprises me when they come clean about it before anybody knows it was even going on, which usually makes me wonder what prompted the sudden honesty spurt.
I think the way he's talking is more designed to save whatever is left of his reputation, which if anything it isn't much...since apparently it wasn't much to begin with, for the duration of his time left in office. Since, I don't think it mentioned he was going to be resigning early.
Obviously, he knows he can't get away with the way he's been acting so far any further, because he's begging to just be friends with his peers. Then again, I do concede it sounds as if he's done that more than once and reneged on the promises. But, like was said in the article, it doesn't look like he's big on keeping promises, anyway.
Either way, he knows he can't really back-pedal, so he's trying to make it sound like less than it is. He's sorry, he'll never do it again, because he has faith on his side!
I don't know about anybody else, but I'm sick of hearing about how some kind of God is going to make everything all better. I'm not religious, myself, but...isn't it breaking a Christian commandment when you commit adultery? Maybe it only counts if you're an average Joe.

It has been reported that Sanford had come clean to some of this "C Street church" buddies.
Sanford came "clean" publicly when he got caught by the South Carolina press. They tracked his vehicles and someone sent him his emails to his mistress.

About getting better. This is a good thing you're doing. I'm sure the Mrs. approves. Particularly as you learn how to fall back in-love with her -- this will no doubt help. However, I must say that if there is a god, we are relieved to learn that you are not its finished product. - That is all. DeSwisson edit: K&R

If he truly feels the way he does about this woman in Argentina, he should divorce his wife and go be with his "soul mate." Allow his wife to pursue a fulfilling life not built on lies and allow his sons to grow up with no more public embarrassment. Really. It might be that God will forgive him of that too. lol. And allow his state to be governed by a responsible person without distractions.
(Sanford clearly misconstrued the subtext of God's or Fate's little interference in his life. If "they" wanted him to continue his life as before, Ms. Argentina would have never been in his path).
This Xian stuff really fucks people up.

| 81. "RGA calls for Spitzer resignation" |
 |
From here: http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0308/RGA_calls_f... The Republican Governor's association, with no apparent concern for David Vitter, puts out this statement from Executive Director Nick Ayers.
The Governor of New York should immediately resign from office and allow the people of New York to pursue honest leadership. The American people are tired of corrupt and hypocritical politicians. The Governor of New York is just another in the long list of politicians that have failed their constituents.
Locally, the Assembly Minority Leader, James Tedisco, is the first off the block:
"He has disgraced his office and the entire (sic) sttae of New York," he says , per MSNBC. "He should resign his office immediately."
Yet the same douche bags, who Stanford was the leader of until that fateful June day, are silent when it is one of their own. Look at this crap from here: http://rga-org.myrga.org/index.php?option=com_content&v... RGA Statement Regarding Governor Sanford
The Republican Governors Association announced today that Governor Haley Barbour will assume the duties of RGA Chairman effective immediately.
Statement of RGA Chairman Haley Barbour:
“The news revealed today hurts all of us who have gotten to know Governor Sanford over the years and so it is with regret that the RGA accepted Governor Sanford’s resignation as chairman.
While this news is deeply disappointing, I also know it’s important to remain focused on the future and Governor Sanford’s resignation allows him and us to do just that.
The RGA has an important task over the next two years. I am committed to seeing it through and confident we will succeed.”
More at link Why isn't the RGA demanding his immediate resignation from office and calling him names like "corrupt and hypocritical" and a "failure" to his constituents? Why is Sanford still out there in the media? What is it with repuke media whoredom?

Sanford and his waste of his time in office and using the citizens' tax dollars to fund his fuck field trips to Argentina, then they deserve what they get. Honestly, if the people in that state don't give a flying rats ass about their governor and buy his line about god making him "better," then I am not sure that SC can be helped.
It is encouraging to see the state senator planning hearings on this, because I think the fix was in from the beginning about him paying for the trips on his own dime. And aside from that, he was elected to do the people's business - not be distracted by his Southern Hemisphere mistress.

Sanford should let the all white, male stag club from "C Street," absolve his sins. All these "C Street," boys have a private boys club which claim allegiance only to one another as their highest priority. Vows of allegiance to each other over their Oaths of Office to uphold the US Constitution, when each one of them swore with their hand upon a bible. They vow allegiance to one another, over the wedding vows to their wives. Makes me wonder if their constant public proclamations of "marriage is only recognized by God between a man and a woman," is a cover to hide their own deviations?

| 104. Cheating SC gov says God will make him better |
 |
Source: APCOLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, still clinging to office after admitting to an extramarital affair, wrote in an opinion piece released Sunday that God will change him so he can emerge from the scandal a more humble and effective leader. "(W)hile none of us has the chance to attend our own funeral, in many ways I feel like I was at my own in the past weeks, and surprisingly I am thankful for the perspective it has afforded," Sanford wrote in the opinion piece widely published online Sunday by South Carolina newspapers. And he either doesn't believe that he can change, or doesn't believe that he ought to. What a crappy thing to say--to suggest that he's passive and powerless over his own behavior, and all he can do is wait until God comes over and hits him on the head with a magic wand. I still say that his ulterior motive is to humiliate his wife into filing for divorce, which would "free" him to keep his job--and maybe even his mistress. rocktivity

That, and quote the Good Book a lot. People love a righteous Christian, and the bloom is off the rose there, but he can develop a slightly different, but still winning brand as a "Christian struggling for reconciliation with the Lord and his wife." Nothing couch potatoes like more than seeing some mighty man fall down and have to pick himself up, appearing humble all the while. Makes the couch potatoes feel bigger, and it doesn't cost anything.

| 117. So, Sanford told this woman in Argentina that she was his soulmate |
 |
Both of them, as I understand the story, were married at the time. That's adultery and it clearly violates one of the Ten Commandments which the Religious Right holds so dear.
And he is now talking about how God is going to help him? Help him what? Lie about how he feels toward his wife? Lie about how he feels toward this other woman whom he called his "soulmate"? Pretend to love someone he doesn't love?
God has nothing to do with Sanford's conduct, never will, never did. Any fool can see that he is dropping his soulmate like a hot potato in order to save his career, not his marriage. Remember, he was being counseled by Christian leaders the whole time that he was carrying on his affair.
Sanford says God will help him. I hope so. But until his behavior toward and feelings about his wife and children have really changed, his talk about God is just using the name of God to improve his image. That violates the Commandment that states" Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain." He is just using the name of God to make himself look better -- in other words, out of vanity.
Humility should be seen and not heard, Sanford.
How about taking a little responsibility for yourself, Governor. Leave God out of this. If you had been listening to God in the first place, you would never have gotten into this mess.
