Dems Sent ‘Back to Drawing Board’ on Health CareUpdated at 3:23 PM
Source: ABC News

Another case of sticker shock has slowed congressional progress on health care reform, with the Congressional Budget Office reporting yesterday that the Democratic proposals now being considered won’t net the federal government any savings.

That’s forcing Democrats “back to the drawing board,” even as legislation crawls its way through committees in the House and Senate, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said today on ABCNews.com’s “Top Line.”

“I’d say it’s something we need to address,” Hoyer, D-Md., told us. “Clearly, bringing costs down is one of the major objectives of this effort, and we’ve got to do that. And if the scoring and the projections don’t indicate that we’re doing that, we need to go back to the drawing board and make sure we do that.”

“I wouldn’t call it a setback, but it is certainly something that we have to pay attention to,” Hoyer said.

When it comes to the savings from single-payer, it's like they have their fingers in their ears, their eyes are closed and they're saying, "La la la ... I'm not listening!" :eyes: :grr:

Conyers has not asked for a cost estimate. I am thinking only the Chairs of these health committee's have to ask--but I am not sure. Do you know?

24. Hey, foginthemorn,
Welcome to DU!

And that's a wonderful question - why hasn't Conyers or any one of his 84 co-signers asked the CBO to do this? Did Pelosi squelch it from the get-go?

9. I can tell them how to fund it. Cut a massive 10-15% out of the military/black ops/'intelligence'
budgets. That would provide between $100-150 billion a year to have universal health care!

17. Interesting that wars never have to pay for themselves
At least, they aren't required to pay directly into the US Treasury.

Since Obama is opposed to single payer, that won't ever be mentioned. How much it would save is irrelevant. This will be a black mark on his administration, no matter what good he accomplishes.
