(Levi) Johnston says Palin had eye on the moneyUpdated at 3:23 PM
Source: ADN

Levi Johnston, the former fiance of Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol, on Thursday joined the crowd offering up potential reasons for Palin's decision to step down.

Johnston met with reporters to say that he heard her musing about a better life, one in which she could spend more time at home, reduce her stress, and accept the lucrative offers coming her way.

Back in December, a month after her election defeat as John McCain's running mate, Johnston said that Palin "had talked about how nice it would be to take some of this money people have been offering us and just run with it, and saying forget everything else."

Asked about Johnston's remarks, Palin's spokeswoman, Meghan Stapleton, said, "It is interesting to learn Levi is working on a piece of fiction while honing his acting skills."

She is such a piece of work that it's nice to have Levi around to say things about her, things that people will generally believe because of his proximity to her.

on the clothesline.

Evidently it's tough getting wolves' bloodstains out of your duds.

Palin's political future is looking really bad when her daughter's lover is publicly commenting on her dark motives.

If anything demonstrates the principle of unintended consquences it's Palin choosing to bring Levi to the convention in order to make Bristol's pregnancy and on-state presence tolerable for the attendees.

Call me cynical, but I wouldn't be that surprised to find out if this is all some sort of staged back and forth routine.

Truth be told, outside of a really big scandal I don't see Palin's support eroding from where it is at this time.

Her base will probably vote for her regardless of what may come out in the future unless they find out she has "666" tatooed on her somewhere.

Gawd, her followers are such suckers. She grifts them for Gucci handbags and they come running back for more. As soon as she sees that she can clean up on a couple of mil before they even start asking questions about her running in 2012, she dives on the governor's office. It's truly amazing.

27. Nope. Money is incidental to having people look at her.
I'm pretty sure Palin falls into the B cluster of personality disorders, which includes antisocial, borderline, narcissistic, and histrionic.

George Bush hits virtually all of the DSM-IV criteria for Narcissistic Personality Disorder, needing only five of nine for a diagnosis. Those criteria are:

1 Has a grandiose sense of self-importance
2 Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty or ideal love (megalomania)
3 Believes they are "special" and can only be understood by, or should associate with, people (or institutions) who are also "special" or of high status
4 Requires excessive admiration
5 Has a sense of entitlement
6 Is interpersonally exploitative
7 Lacks empathy
8 Is often envious of others or believes others are envious of him or her
9 Shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes

Palin seems to hit a lot of those bells, too. But wait a minute! There's also Histrionic Personality Disorder. Someone at Wikipedia has included the cleverly arranged mnemonic by which one can remember the eight criteria of HPD:

* P - provocative (or seductive) behavior
* R - relationships, considered more intimate than they are
* A - attention, must be at center of
* I - influenced easily
* S - speech (style) - wants to impress, lacks detail
* E - emotional lability, shallowness

* M - make-up - physical appearance used to draw attention to self
* E - exaggerated emotions - theatrical

Yeah, that sounds a lot like Palin to me. If that's the case, money is only incidental to a larger plan of staying in the spotlight and basking in fame and adulation--especially adulation. Unlike NPD, HPD is somewhat treatable--as long as you can keep the patient out of group therapy. Though the disorder's name suggests that it is primarily a female-based disorder, it is not.

I'm watching an entire swath of lives being overturned by one histrionic personality in a nearby town. While maintaining a fleet of side-men, she went off of birth control without telling her boyfriend, got knocked up, and has successfully maneuvered him into discussing marriage while promising not to demand a paternity test, while also isolating him from his friends, securing all of his income, and talking him into moving somewhere where she can better control him. But now that she's gaining weight and nobody is looking at her rack, she's becoming tired of the idea of being pregnant, so there is the possibility she'll end it. It's all there: using her appearance as a weapon, theatricality, ever-changing emotional state, all of it in crisis, and most important, the attention.

That person, or one just like her, could have been a heartbeat away from the Presidency, and likely will run again because it's the election which brings the most attention.

lots of money coming and spending LESS time at home. Just watch after the summer how she is on the road 90% of the time, wallowing in the wacko applause, buying clothes, and raking in the money from her speeches and ghost-written book. Who the hell takes care of all these kids? It won't be her.

I don't see how he can know WHAT her reasons are. He's been out of the loop for too long.

But yeah, it seems like everyone wants what they can get out of the opportunities that are coming their way:

Palin - cash from book deal, freedom from obligations in AK, media tour, chance at presidency
Bristol - money for Candie's endorsement, legitimacy that improves mom's chance for presidency
Levi - keep name in media, improve chances for modeling/acting gigs, paid interviews?
