NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Former NFL star Steve McNair was shot dead in his sleep last week by a 20-year-old girlfriend distraught about mounting financial problems and her belief that he was seeing someone else, police said Wednesday.

Sahel Kazemi "was spinning out of control" when she shot McNair four times as he dozed on a sofa early Saturday, then turned the gun on herself, Police Chief Ronal Serpas said.

Interviews with friends revealed that she was making payments on two cars, her rent was doubling and she suspected the married McNair was having a second affair with another young woman.

She told a friend on Friday that "My life is a ball of s--- and I should end it," Serpas said.

I never heard this reported. Seems it would have been important since McNair was threatened publicly in a bar a week earlier by a different woman. Not saying she didn't do it, but it would seem this test should have occurred.

I listend to the police spokesman yesterday and he mentioned gunpowder residue was found on Kazeemi's hand but he added something to the effect that "it was not a lot".

I wish I could remember his exact words but I was half-listening and half-working at the time so I kind of missed it.

I would think that after firing five shots in a short period of time a fair amount of residue would be found.

McNair was asleep on the couch when Kazemi shot him once in the right temple then twice in the chest followed up with a shot to the left temple. She then sat down beside him on the couch and shot herself in the right temple.

Amazingly, with all the publicity this story has gotten, I've yet to hear what kind of firearm she used.

So at least the adultery wasn't a surprise. Still, it must be very hard for her. It's one thing to deal with a broken marriage but to deal with the fact that if your marriage had remained intact then your husband (and children's father) would likely still be alive must be rough. I can't imagine what she is going through right now.

The widow has been spared the mental, physical, emotional and economic exhaustion of divorce. The children get surviver's benefits and their inheritance is undiminished. They cannot be shamed further by their traitorous father/husband.

Since they had already been betrayed, they suffered no extra losses. Given that reconciliation didn't seem remotely possible, this is the best outcome for the innocent.

They also claimed he was going to break it off with the young lady. If they were indeed separated, perhaps they were going to try and reconcile? Or maybe it wasn't an official separation but more a matter of his being thrown out when his infidelities were found out? Who knows but my basic point was that his wife was not surprised about the adultery.
