Breaking News - Three More Ethics Complaints Against Palin, and Then Some?! 24 06 2009 Alaska Report has breaking news! According to the site, there are three (count ‘em…THREE) ethics complaints against Governor Sarah Palin coming down the pike. Mention is also made of a “long simmering embezzlement/IRS scandal” that is still being looked at by the feds. Wow. I have no more news than that, folks. Check it out at the link above, and use this thread to… I don’t know…. speculate I guess! http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:WNnQeYR594wJ:www.th...

| 188. Sanford been to Alaska too? |
| 225. Okay- That got the best laugh of the day from me |
| 257. no. :) He's SC's very own douchebag. |
| 82. I can't remember ANYBODY resigning a governor's job to run |
for President. I don't see how that strategy would make any sense.
I could see NOT RUNNING for a second term if she thought there was a chance she would get really roughed up or even lose. But that's different from resigning.
Something doesn't add up. I realize she has never impressed as being very bright, but this is not just a stupid political move by a lightweight. There is something much deeper driving this.
| 127. I don't know of any Governor resigning before their first term was up and even run for President. |
Past Sitting Governors:
Bush Clinton FDR
Past Full Term Governors:
Reagan Carter
I wonder how many Governors became VP after only serving less than 4 years like Coolidge?
I wonder how many Presidents were former mayors of a big time city?
| 129. And they were all distinguished in one way or another |
Not necessarily justifiably, but all of them had some backgrounds other than their terms as Governor.
| 191. Agreed. She cited being a "lame duck" as her reason for stepping down ... |
... but another politician, with a spine, would take this as an opportunity to put forward risky, but necessary, proposals that no one is ever quite willing to put their political capital behind, for fear of not being re-elected.
My guess is she realizes she could never win the Presidency, and that her window for making big money as a Republican celebrity will not be open forever, and so she's getting out of elected office in order to cash-in on speaking engagements and, possibly, either a radio or TV show.
are lame duck when elected
| 224. Certainly not 3 years in advance. I find it 'odd' that the presidential angle |
would even be mentioned above the fold; it's such a stretch that the only reason to mention it is to give her some cover...
| 88. GOP probably concluded she was a millstone around the neck of their next ticket |
and took her for a quiet little ride to urge her to quit or else

Gov. Sarah palin to resign her office Posted: July 3, 2009 03:14 PM Updated: July 3, 2009 03:19 PM by Channel 2 News staff Friday, July 3, 2009 WASILLA, Alaska -- Gov. Sarah Palin will resign her office in a few weeks, she said during a news conference at her home Friday morning. Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the Governor's Picnic at the end of the month. http://www.ktuu.com/Global/story.asp?S=10641495
| 7. Thank you for this! I'm adding it to my post. |
| 10. Sarah Palin will not seek re-election |
| 11. Well if this isn't the most transparent thing ever I don't know what is. |
She'll have four years as governor of Alaska to draw on as her "experience", most of that spent declaring jihad on the Internet and popular entertainment figures.
I thought she was an internationally renowned woman of mystery.
| 13. awesome, line up the GOP ticket with clowns like her |
| 14. Alaskans appear to be devastated. |
| 85. We is all heartbroke down heres in NC too |
| 15. Winners aren't quitters |
It's a little early to quit if she's planning on running for president isn't it?? Why not mid 2010?
| 84. You NEVER quit a Governor's job to run for Prez |
It is the perfect platform for running. Without that job, she is just a middle-aged former beauty queen with much less of a record tan Dan Quayle.
| 248. She has obviously learned nothing about quitting... |
from Ross Perot! Not always politically expedient... something BIG must be driving this!
| 17. If she resigns now, she's a quitter under fire. What good is a Presidential candidate "quitter"? |
Seriously, we'll make mincemeat of her if she quits her job mid-stream.
| 142. Even some Freepers think it was a dumb move |
Exhibit A: If she is genuinely stepping down from politics for good, then I can’t blamer her, but if this is a “tactical” move for 2012, she has shot herself in the foot. 6 posted on Friday, July 03, 2009 03:33:49 PM by Nephi ( Support Fascism: Buy GE, GM and Chrysler products! Source: NBCWASILLA, Alaska -- Gov. Sarah Palin will resign her office in a few weeks, she said during a news conference at her home Friday morning. Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the Governor's Picnic at the end of the month, Palin said. There was no immediate word as to why she will resign, though speculation has been rampant that the former vice presidential candidate is gearing up for a run at the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. Mind if I shed my crocodile tear now, or should I just burst out in a gut laugh?

| 31. Is Obama even going to have an opponent in 2012? |
They're dropping like flies.
| 33. If he fails to hold the Bush administration accountable for torture, count on it |
The 2012 primary winner will mow down the Palin campaign like a Sherman tank.
| 47. Even if Obama does not personally go after... |
The Bush Admin. there is no Democratic Candidate that would stand a chance at beating Obama as things are right now. NOT ONE!
| 59. Last I saw, Guantanamo is open and we still occupy Iraq |
Yes, Obama's only been in office for five and a half months, but we put him in office to dismantle the Bush legacy, not to preserve it.
| 87. Maybe that's why the Republicans are dropping out. |
They can't find anyone who would do a better job of carrying on all the stuff that Cheney started.
| 178. I DIDN"T put Obama in office to "dismantle Bush's legacy" ... |
I put him on office to serve the American people, and fix the damn economy.
| 132. It's going to be like that SNL skit from the 1991... |
| 230. A funny sketch, but... |
...remember William Jefferson Clinton? When that sketch aired, the primaries were a long way away, much like they are now.
| 34. It's looking like he won't have to run against this one at least |
My guess is this is due to more ethics investigations in her future. Time will tell though.
| 44. This is actually bad news, because the Republicans might actually come up with someone who can |
| 63. Maybe they're trying to build one. |

Like a six-million dollar Cheney or a Rush Voltron.

| 35. How is she going to support her family? |

| 96. She'll be writing full-time - |
don't forget her fat book deal. I don't remember the particulars, but if she got, for example, a two million dollar deal, it would be normal for her to get one million dollars in advance.
So, that should keep them in mooseburgers for a while .............
| 159. Who could possibly sit down and read through |
a couple of hundred pages of "You betcha's", "Gosh darnits'" and "By golly's". It's a kind of torture you know, to have to read through some fourth grade level ramblings of a supposedly grown up ex-politician. The good thing is she can't make anyone read her drivel, although someone is going to have to actually sit down and slog through it to review the thing. My sympathies to whomever gets stuck with that job.

| 43. Hmm. I wonder if some big dirt has been dug up? n/t |

She wouldn't hand over power like this unless someone had something big on her.
| 120. and on a holiday weekend to avoid too much press... |
| 46. Maybe she slept with Sanford |
| 68. I think he's more into the classy type. |

| 73. No one! Another pathological lie from Carribou barbie. |
Did you catch when she said General McCarther? Me thinks she meant General McCarthy!!
I also liked when she said that for her followers to be prepared for the attacks that would come her way. Is that her way of trying to take the wind out of whatever legal snafu Alaska has coming for her?
What a rambling nonsensical announcement.
| 150. That's probably shorthand for the rampant speculation about his parentage... |
Let's just call the speculators "Democratic Birthers" and be done with it, shall we?

don't ring true at all.
I mean who QUITS being governor of a state BEFORE the term is over to concentrate on presidential aspirations. It is crazy. No one will vote for a QUITTER.
So this must have something to do with some serious crap about her that she is worried about.
| 101. Correct. If it were anybody else ... |
I would say it is probably a very serious health problem, perhaps a very difficult cancer or something that demands 100% of her attention. And if it were anybody else, I would have some compassion for that.
| 51. WTF was Sarah Palins speech the f**k about? |
One long babbling rant about what?
Have you ever understood a single fucking thing she says? Why would today be different?
| 76. No that was the craziest thing I have ever heard! |
| 75. it was rambling and strange. point guard. |
| 56. The GOP panic room gears up for decades in the wilderness. Whatcha gonna do, Jeb? | |
| 57. I'll be at the Governor's Picnic - it's here in Fairbanks! |

| 253. I can't believe I just happened... |
to have bought a ticket to Fairbanks for the 24th-26th for my Bday. Hmmm. Might have to attend this. It is truly a good day for Alaskans, even though I don't understand why she did it.
| 58. Inaugurated at a PICNIC? |
What a very informal state to be sure.
| 67. The Guv Picnic isn't really a "picnic" - |
It's generally huge, one of the larger events here in Fairbanks, held at Alaskaland, free admission to all, free dogs & burgers & lemonade, and ALL pols interested in getting the Interior Alaska vote will be there. It coincides with Golden Days, http://fairbanks-alaska.com/golden-days-schedule.htm our Interior Alaska celebration of the founding of Fairbanks, the Golden Days Parade is the Saturday immediately preceeding the Guv Picnic. At the same time, WEIO (World Eskimo Indian Olympics) http://fairbanks-alaska.com/eskimo-indian-olympics.htm happens here, fabulous Native athletes from all over Alaska and Canada. Fun times for all - and a good day for Alaska, FINALLY.
| 244. Oh. Still a picnic, though. No free lemonade in NY, for instance. |
What a great deal of celebrating there will be this year.
| 60. I just heard this on AP news (radio) |
OMG I thought I was listening to an audio version of The Onion! But it's true!!!!
| 62. She's such a raging narcissist |
that it makes me wonder what they dug up on her. It would have to be something pretty damning for HER to give up power.
| 64. My sources in Anchorage say that |
Edited on Fri Jul-03-09 04:05 PM by darkstar
she's going to be on 30 Rock playing "the creepy, scam artist sister Liz never knew she had."
Much hilarity ensues.
| 66. Yeah, cause this worked so well for John Edwards |
America will be so sick of her in a few months.........if they aren't already.

Has to make a spectacle of herself to regain the limelight.
| 106. They both made news the same way. |
His: accidental suicide in the course of trying to avoid sure-to-fail 50-show tour.
Hers: political suicide in the course of trying to avoid sure-to-fail presidential run.

| 119. I got it.....she was so choked up with grief over Michael Jackson... |
that she had to resign..........
