Source: CNN

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is expected to announce Friday that she will not seek a second term, a Republican source close to Palin tells CNN.

Palin has scheduled a 3 p.m. ET news conference at her home in Wasilla. The governor’s office offered no further details about the subject of the news conference, but the sources tells CNN that Palin will announce her decision to forgo another run.

As the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, Palin is considered one of the frontrunners for the GOP nomination in 2012. Her decision not to seek another term as governor is sure to stoke speculation that Palin is seriously eyeing a run for the White House.

Breaking News - Three More Ethics Complaints Against Palin, and Then Some?!
24

06

2009
Alaska Report has breaking news! According to the site, there are three (count ‘em…THREE) ethics complaints against Governor Sarah Palin coming down the pike.

Mention is also made of a “long simmering embezzlement/IRS scandal” that is still being looked at by the feds.

Wow.

I have no more news than that, folks. Check it out at the link above, and use this thread to… I don’t know…. speculate I guess!

82. I can't remember ANYBODY resigning a governor's job to run
for President. I don't see how that strategy would make any sense.

I could see NOT RUNNING for a second term if she thought there was a chance she would get really roughed up or even lose. But that's different from resigning.

Something doesn't add up. I realize she has never impressed as being very bright, but this is not just a stupid political move by a lightweight. There is something much deeper driving this.

FDR

Past Full Term Governors:

Reagan
Carter

I wonder how many Governors became VP after only serving less than 4 years like Coolidge?

I wonder how many Presidents were former mayors of a big time city?

191. Agreed. She cited being a "lame duck" as her reason for stepping down ...
... but another politician, with a spine, would take this as an opportunity to put forward risky, but necessary, proposals that no one is ever quite willing to put their political capital behind, for fear of not being re-elected.

My guess is she realizes she could never win the Presidency, and that her window for making big money as a Republican celebrity will not be open forever, and so she's getting out of elected office in order to cash-in on speaking engagements and, possibly, either a radio or TV show.

Source: Politico

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has told associates that she will not seek re-election next year, freeing her to pursue a White House bid in 2012, according to two GOP sources.

Palin is to make her decision known later this afternoon from her home in Wasilla with her husband, Todd, and family by her side.

Exhibit A:

If she is genuinely stepping down from politics for good, then I can’t blamer her, but if this is a “tactical” move for 2012, she has shot herself in the foot.

28. Gov. Sarah Palin to resign her office
Source: NBC

WASILLA, Alaska -- Gov. Sarah Palin will resign her office in a few weeks, she said during a news conference at her home Friday morning.

Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the Governor's Picnic at the end of the month, Palin said.

There was no immediate word as to why she will resign, though speculation has been rampant that the former vice presidential candidate is gearing up for a run at the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

Palin made the announcement flanked by Parnell and most, if not all, of her cabinet.

It's a kind of torture you know, to have to read through some fourth grade level ramblings of a supposedly grown up ex-politician. The good thing is she can't make anyone read her drivel, although someone is going to have to actually sit down and slog through it to review the thing. 41. Politically, this does not make sense. She's "quitting," and that's suicide.
Then again, she's an airhead -- nothing makes sense.

73. No one! Another pathological lie from Carribou barbie.
Did you catch when she said General McCarther? Me thinks she meant General McCarthy!!

I also liked when she said that for her followers to be prepared for the attacks that would come her way. Is that her way of trying to take the wind out of whatever legal snafu Alaska has coming for her?

What a rambling nonsensical announcement.

Let's just call the speculators "Democratic Birthers" and be done with it, shall we?

49. somehow all the theories that this is for presidential aspirations
Edited on Fri Jul-03-09 03:51 PM by habitual
don't ring true at all.

I mean who QUITS being governor of a state BEFORE the term is over to concentrate on presidential aspirations. It is crazy. No one will vote for a QUITTER.

So this must have something to do with some serious crap about her that she is worried about.

101. Correct. If it were anybody else ...
I would say it is probably a very serious health problem, perhaps a very difficult cancer or something that demands 100% of her attention. And if it were anybody else, I would have some compassion for that.
