FBI releases summaries of interviews with Saddam HusseinUpdated at 4:18 PM
Source: USA Today

Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, in 20 formal interviews and at least five casual conversations with the FBI, said he was bluffing publicly about having weapons of mass destruction because he feared showing weakness to Iran, according to newly released FBI summaries.

The documents were released as a result of Freedom of Information Act request by the National Security Archive, an independent non-governmental research institute and library.

HIghlights:

-- Saddam denies any connection to the "zealot" Osama bin Laden, citing North Korea as his most likely ally in a crunch.

-- He shares President George W. Bush's hostility towards the "fanatic" Iranian mullahs.

-- He refutes rumors that he used body doubles. To evade his enemies, he says he never used the telephone and traveled constantly from one dwelling to another.

-- He claims that former secretary of state James Baker, in the lead up to the first Gulf War, told Saddam's foreign minister that "we'll take you back to the pre-industrial stage" if Iraq does not comply with U.S. conditions.
