39 trips for Sanford with no security in '09
Edited on Thu Jul-02-09 07:58 AM by brooklynite
Source: The State

Gov. Mark Sanford left the Governor’s Mansion without a security escort, 38 times in 2008. In the first six months of this year, he left the mansion without security, 39 times.

Those trips are about one-third of the 195 trips Sanford made from the mansion, with or without security, over that 18-month period.

The frequency with which the governor shed his security detail has fallen under scrutiny after his secret trip earlier this month to Argentina.

Sanford has to realize that every news outlet worth its salt is going to be going over his records with a fine tooth comb to locate anything juicy, and this is going to drag out for weeks.

He seems to think that the more he "explains" about his feelings for Beautiful Maria Of My Soul, the better everyone will be able to understand and forgive him. Um, not so much.

1) All ex-presidents are at some risk from crazies and 2) W is a notorious war criminal, and hence stirs up much more intense passions than Carter, Clinton, or Daddy ever did.

32. That's how I think we got it wrong for 8 years . . .
And by "we" I mean anyone who looked at GWBush and immediately suffered a bout of nausea.

He is, by reasonably reliable report, an OK-smart person. If you look at the debates he conducted during the Governor's race in 1998 or so, he's cogent (no shit!), able to speak a multi-clause sentence without swallowing his tongue, and even credible.

His actions as president, IMO, were driven by different deficiencies: lack of wisdom (foolishness), arrogance, pride, sociopathy, resentment, and an unhealthy dependence on the moral/macho certainty of others. He was simultaneously a complete tool and a chimp in a china shop.

And he may have begun some form of mental deterioration as the stress of the position began to wear him down, as it does with all presidents.

But I'm pretty sure he could complete the Houston Chronicle's daily Sudoku puzzle without too much difficulty.

36. Two thoughts:
A friend thinks Dummya, during his Presidency, was affected by a condition called dry drunk syndrome. That would explain a lot of things, including his trouble with words.

My son thinks the purpose of Bush's Presidency was to make certain rich people much richer. Viewed through that prism, he fulfiled his purpose beautifully.

I'm in general agreement with your first thought.

And *of course* he was there expressly to enrich the already fabulously wealthy. They needed a key to unlock the lootable vaults and he was it. That's why his supporters groomed him for years.
