Hell, Mr. DLC wouldn't let ANY progressive talk to Obama if he could help it--not even a progressive Jew. Bad choice of words on Rev. Wright's part, though.

97. I think "bad choice of words" is an understatement
If he was talking about just Rahm Emanuel, referring to "them Jews" is improper as it seems to indicate a plural.

Of course if he wasn't simply referring to Rahm Emanuel but rather his belief in some Jewish conspiracy, the word choice would make more sense.

It seems if there really is a veritable 'shadow-corps' of power lobbyists and affiliates in government, calling the shots, especially regarding foreign policy and 'neo-fabricated war' with influence enough to occupy 40% of all available seating at our now-very-expensive top universities, and with primary interests in remaining democraphically domininant as a distinct social class, well then, there's also - really - absolutely no approach left open for ... solutions to the maniacal imbalance of human worth which has been quite aggressively arranged.

Anyone who speaks out is automatically designated as the primary threat to a healthy society. I'd say a baby born into a American Black family deserves a better than 1/10,000th-the-likelihood chance of going to med school as it would have if born to Jewish parents.

That's a real 'problem' needing attention, IMO.

166. Those two words are definitely not on the audio you linked to.
There is an abrupt sort of skip which could indicate a cut after he said "How could you|let ** him talk to me?" The skip being where I put the divider. There is nothing that even vaguely sounds like it could be "them Jews" on that audio. But since something seems very likely to have been cut, who knows? I'm witholding judgement.

175. The explanation sounds worse than the original remark.
Now not only does he feel that Jews keep him from the President (and not simply staffers carrying out the President's wishes), but he also has a totally one-sided view of the Israel/Palestine situation. Since the staffers' views of the Palestinian situation have no bearing on Wright's admittance into Pres. Obama's presence, the explanation comes off as a gratuitous slam against Israel's right to exist. Just have to keep wondering why no matter what manner of injustice the U.S. has inflicted on this or that portion of the world, the reaction is almost never that the U.S. must cease to exist, even when the speaker is so angry that they feel the U.S. should be somehow punished. Or Australia (another country created by colonization) or any country other than Israel. Sheesh! And people wonder why Jews feel that they need a country. Bigotry, even from the mouth of a member of a long-oppressed ethnic group, always sounds ugly.

15. If by "Jews" he's referring to Rahm Emanuel
maybe he's right. If Obama wanted to call him, he could. I'd be surprised Obama has talked to him at some point (via phone, text or email), but Wright wants the photo-op and Obama's people don't want to give it to him. There's nothing good that will come of it from Obama's standpoint and it's not worth the grief.

29. I don't think Obama has talked to him, emailed him, texted him, or even said his name
without putting "Fucking" in front of it since the Not-So-Good Reverend went off like a nutcase at the Press Club. I don't think Obama ever wants to see, hear, or speak to that guy, ever again.

I don't think Obama LIKES the guy much, anymore. Wright was not a friend to him. He took a bad situation, and deliberately made it worse, because in Wright's view, it was all about him.

It ain't "them Jews" keeping Wright at bay. It's Obama who's made the decision to keep that nutball off the wires and out of his life.

He came across as a measured, thoughtful, very, very intelligent, composed man with a striking resume who handled himself like a real pro.

16. And everybody hates the Jews
Oh, the white folks hate the black folks,
And the black folks hate the white folks.
To hate all but the right folks
Is an old established rule.

But during National Brotherhood Week, National Brotherhood Week,
Lena Horne and Sheriff Clarke are dancing cheek to cheek.
It's fun to eulogize
The people you despise,
As long as you don't let 'em in your school.

Oh, the poor folks hate the rich folks,
And the rich folks hate the poor folks.
All of my folks hate all of your folks,
It's American as apple pie.

But during National Brotherhood Week, National Brotherhood Week,
New Yorkers love the Puerto Ricans 'cause it's very chic.
Step up and shake the hand
Of someone you can't stand.
You can tolerate him if you try.

Oh, the Protestants hate the Catholics,
And the Catholics hate the Protestants,
And the Hindus hate the Muslims,
And everybody hates the Jews.

But during National Brotherhood Week, National Brotherhood Week,
It's National Everyone-smile-at-one-another-hood Week.
Be nice to people who
Are inferior to you.
It's only for a week, so have no fear.
Be grateful that it doesn't last all year!

But seriously, it seems like that. I was watching a video showing civil unrest in Mexico, and was astonished at what one man said.

"The Jews have ruled America since 1624." That's the quote as best I can remember it. Mind you, this man might easily be mistaken for what papers amazingly refer to as a "Mexican peasant" implying I assume that he is not educated and makes his living picking vegetables. I found it most interesting that this comment was so specific, dating the alleged Jewish conquest of America (not clear on whether he means all of North America, just Mexico, or the US) to a specific year. I was astonished. It's not that I didn't think there was racism in Mexico, simply that I wasn't aware that there was anti-semitism.

18. Uh oh. He's just taken a one way trip to Total Crankville!! And he'll never return!
Obama is well-known for his emotionless pragmatism. If he doesn't need someone, they're dead to him.

That's not a criticism, it's a good trait to have, to some extent, when you have to make decisions of the highest order. It's pointless to spend time getting agitated about conditions that cannot be changed.

Wright is a "condition that cannot be changed." The man is toxic. Whether that's due to him just being a bigoted ass, or if it's because he's suffering from the onset of dementia, is hard to determine. In any event, he's dead to Obama. He'd better start wrapping his brain around that simple reality.

I don't think Obama will have anything to do with Wright, ever again, if he can help it. If Wright died, he'd probably let the press office write the prepared statement, and not change a single word of whatever they ginned up.

And "them JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOZ" at the White House (to say nothing of those of all faiths, or none, who answer the switchboards) will probably make damn sure he doesn't get past that switchboard, EVER.

EVER!! Because he's dead to them, too!

Pathetic old fool. What a jerk. He just "needs" to bask in that spotlight, so he says outrageous things to make it happen--he can't stand retirement in the shadows!

38. But the fascinating thing is that the statement was STUPID
Even if you harbor dislike, distrust, hatred, or animosity towards a group of people, if you are a public figure then you have to know better than to make such a remark where it will be heard, read, or repeated.

Wright likes the sound of his own voice, no doubt about it. But has he lost his mind?

And no, I certainly did not call you an anti-semite. I doubt very much that you are. I think you are wedded to a certain political philosophy however. Seriously, this is from Politico.

I may be one of the few people here who's actually met Jeremiah Wright. He's not perfect, and has clearly violated denominational standards on more than one occasion (for which I have screamed loud and long at Conference staff). But I've never known him to be a bigot of any kind. Most of what is printed about him is taken out of context or includes a whole lot of redaction.

121. If not bigoted, then what do you call someone who thinks the "Jews" are in some sort of conspiracy
like this one?

you know, i never thought of my step grandmother as a bigot but one day (when I was 10) she reacted to something on the news by saying, "Hitler should have finished them off the first time..."

that was almost 30 years ago now and it was a shock and i was the one she was talking to! :wtf:

of course based on her overall statements by that time, she didn't fit the pattern of bigotry --but within years she was a Pat Buchanan, immigrant hating bigot. she didn't become one later, she was when she made that first statement.

maybe he doesn't fit your definition of a bigot, but i'm concerned about any motivation to explain it away or diminish its significance.

needs to look in his mirror. Another recent link quoted the Rev saying "Obama's made mistakes but I still think of him as my child"(paraphrasing)

So, of course, Wright doesn't make any mistakes?

Rahm Israel Emanuel <-- Zionist and main filter to Obama...

---------------------------------------------------------

Wright said that when he went to the polls, he did not hold any grudge against Obama.

"Of course I voted for him; he's my son. I'm proud of him," Wright said. "I've got five biological kids. They all make mistakes and bad choices. I haven't stopped loving any of them.

"He made mistakes. He made bad choices. I've got kids who listen to their friends. He listened to those around him. I did not disown him."

Asked if he had spoken to the president, Wright said: "Them Jews aren't going to let him talk to me. I told my baby daughter, that he'll talk to me in five years when he's a lame duck, or in eight years when he's out of office. ...

"They will not let him to talk to somebody who calls a spade what it is. ... I said from the beginning: He's a politician; I'm a pastor. He's got to do what politicians do."

Wright also said Obama should have sent a U.S. delegation to the World Conference on Racism held recently in Geneva, Switzerland, but that the president did not do so for fear of offending Jews and Israel.

"Ethnic cleansing is going on in Gaza. Ethnic cleansing (by) the Zionist is a sin and a crime against humanity, and they don't want Barack talking like that because that's anti-Israel," Wright said.

his heritage is really irrelevant, but from your post, it appears that he's Jewish is part of your complaint.

You're putting words into my mouth -- bad form!

I'm not now nor have I ever been against ANYONE because of their race, religion, ethnicity, etc. etc. etc.

However, it appears from your post that you don't know the difference between Zionist and Jewish... For your education, Zionists come in many different religions -- some are Jewish. Many (most?) USAmerican Jews are NOT Zionists.

He's a rabid supporter of the Israeli government, right or wrong... And lately they've been horribly wrong. That's what I have against all Zionist Fanatics.

If it weren't for his Zionism and his pro-corporate and pro-war bias and the way he allegedly treats underlings, I'd really like the guy's voting record on social issues.

I've made it clear that when he uses "Jews" as a derogatory term I'm against it.

When one considers the point he's trying to make -- it's technically correct.

What part of reading English are you skipping? The comprehension part?

164. for your information, there are many zionists who believe in Palestinian rights
and who abhor the occupation. And Emanuel is not a rabid supporter of Israel. He's supportive of Obama's approach to I/P. Hardly the position of a Zionist fanatic.

Edited on Wed Jun-10-09 04:28 PM by ProudDad
I don't excuse his choice of words -- they are divisive and probably not 100% accurate (there are plenty of Gentile Dems who would block his access to Obama, too -- Dems as a class tend to be a bunch of weak sisters...)

But Rev. Wright's POINT IS correct.

There is one Jewish person who can deny any possibility of contact between Wright and Obama.

That particular Jewish person is probably not the only filter but he is a main one...

98. By your argument
One could say, "Them blacks control the US." or "Them Muslims are terrorists." and both points would be correct according to you.

There is one black person is the leader of the United States. He isn't the only person who controls the United States, but he is a main one.

Also, there are some Muslims who are terrorists. They aren't the only terrorists, but there are some. By the logic you use in this post above, these statements would be correct.

That's why you shouldn't be okay with categorizing a person based on their characteristics.

152. I re-read "all" of your posts...
Despite the fact that my response was to one post in particular, and you know what, your post still looks like you are defending Reverend Wright.

"But Rev. Wright's POINT IS correct. There is one Jewish person who can deny any possibility of contact between Wright and Obama. That particular Jewish person is probably not the only filter but he is a main one..."

Those are your words unchanged. Now tell me how the changes I made to your example don't stand? Why is saying "There is one Black person" or "There is one Gay person" a logical fallacy from the example you stated? Especially given that the original statement in question was "Them Jews" not "A Jew" or "That Jew" which, IMO, would still be just as bad.

But I'm guessing you will again respond with a smiley and avoid the point altogether.
