They're emboldened now, and there's just enough people in our society who think they have the right idea to make this a crisis.
It's not unlike the Taliban forcing women's schools to close down. If there's no schools, girls will stay home, stay in their burqas, and stay stupid, right?

And they will.
A couple more years and we'll be back to abortions being handled by drunks, de-licensed doctors and second year med students.
Just like the good old days.

That would be fantastic if all were still doing it --
My impression was they were intimidating some teaching schools --
maybe they didn't get as far as I thought! Hope not!!
Also did you see the story a couple of months back about a woman having
a miscarriage taken to a hospital and turned away. The administration
was afraid of being charged of doing an abortion!!
The "partial truth abortion" legislation is going to kill a lot of women
one way or another!
And, it won't be women from wealthy famiies . . . it will be poor women.

We're still in the same gene pool that gave us Native American genocide -- enslavement of Africans in America. Followed by another 100 years of Segregation, Inc. It's about exploitation for profit -- in the case of nature and women, I'd have to expand that to hatred and fear. Women's Holocaust - "Hammer of Witches" Vatican's Jewish ghettoes for 1,100 years followed by another 100 years of vile Vatican propaganda against them. Still oppression of homosexuals. That's what organized patriarchal religion is all about . . .

I was shocked to hear only three clinics in all America provide late term services.
Of course these are easy to target. Congress and Obama need to make it mandatory that large University Hospitals provide these essential health care services, so that it isn't easy to target all of them.
Will the Dems ever grow a spine?
Former Presidential candidate Bob Dole can advertise viagra and medicare will pay for it yet, women across the country can't get necessary health care.

Once THEY have been killed (and I believe they will be eventually) and THEIR clinics closed (which they will be), then the terrorists will get to work on facilities that provide earlier pregnancy terminations.
I think we all get where this is going. And I don't believe for one minute that the FBI will "find" any evidence of a conspiracy.

They have murdered in the name of life. However, this will cause even more death, as desperate women will turn -- as they did decades ago (when I was a kid) -- to back-alley abortionists or self-induced abortions.
When I was younger, before abortion was safe and legal, it was not uncommon for a pregnant woman and her fetus to die at the hands of a failed medical student, a defrocked doctor, or a charlatan in a sleazy motel room or an industrial building somewhere. Some women turned to folk remedies that were sometimes ineffective and often fatal.
The Christian terrorists will kill more people than they save -- but they'll be patting themselves on the back for this.

And why a freestanding clinic, which is arguably much harder to protect against harassment-bent nuts (and worse) than a full-service hospital or equivalent facility?
Sure, starting another clinic in Wichita would be a satisfying in-your-face gesture, but we need to be practical. If there are more doctors with the courage to take up Dr. Tiller's work, they should be able to practice where they're most comfortable. Hopefully in cities where local and state law enforcement and the political establishment will protect them. Heck, the majority of those bozos who've been hanging out in Wichita and making clinic harassment their life's work probably couldn't even afford to move to NYC or San Francisco.
And we may have to take a tip from the bad old days before abortion was legal. Protect such doctors from press coverage and even internet exposure. Let word get out to the medical community only by word-of-mouth and pro-choice networks.
If hospitals won't take on such a clinic, how about a hospital ship? That should be easier to control access to.
And yes, it's terrible that such measures should be necessary for a legal medical procedure, but we can't let terrorists control our society, either.
In any case we need a foundation--or several--to support some of these needs. Including desperate women who find themselves with a pregnancy that's gone awry too late for any but expert help. There but for the grace of God go I -- or many of us! IS there such a foundation/fund?

What Dr. Tiller did is a legal medical proceedure in this country. He patients were all there voluntarily, he didn't force anyone to use his services or go to his clinic. If people are against abortion then they should find ways through the elective, legal, judicial system to get things changed. Committing an act of cold blooded murder in the name of "Jesus" is no better than what those people who flew the planes into the Twin Towers did in the name of "Allah".

Not unexpected, though. Dr. Tiller was irreplaceable. Who were they going to find to stand up against terrorism, and inspire others to do so? Somebody with his soul is not going to be waiting in the wings. It's a great day for terrorism and an encouragement for more.
But it's a temporary victory. The terrorists have created a great martyr with Dr. George Tiller that will galvanize the whole pro-choice movement. We are not going to let them win.

Tillers Womens clinic. The terrorist did win since it is now gone but at the same time I cannot blame the Tiller family for shutting it down. They gave up a husband, father and grandfather to the fight for a woman's right to the health care she needed. Hopefully there are some doctors out there right now with the guts and money to open not just one clinic to replace Tiller's but even more. That is the only way to beat this form of terror.

"Sucks" is when you forget your lunch at home or scuff your new shoes.
A courageous man lost his life performing procedures that were protected by the law. He was murdered in cold blood by a Christian terrorist who has now been shown that his tactics work.
Also, many of the women Dr Tiller helped in the later terms were there because of legitimate medical threats to their own lives or because the fetus had already died inside the womb. Assuming that these women were there just because they couldn’t make up their minds earlier is just plain ignorant.

Women don't get third-trimester abortions for the fun of it or because they suddenly decide they can't handle having a baby. In virtually all cases either the mother's health is at risk or the doctor has discovered the baby has some terrible medical problem and either would not live or would have no quality of life.

My sister had a baby with a condition they knew about. Didn't live two days. I don't know what the medical name of the condition is but it wasn't that. Anyway not important.
They decided to go all the way to birth. I am glad they were the ones able to make the decision one way or the other but I am still concerned some doctors could make mistakes early on and tell patients to get abortions or pressure them to and be wrong. Not a situation a patient or doctor wants to be in and very tough for everyone.

I repeat, women who have late term abortions aren't doing it for fun. In fact, it's quite painful and usually psychologically traumatic. And potentially dangerous. They aren't doing it because they suddenly decided they just really didn't want to have a baby.

My baby was dead and decomposing and didn't die early enough to avoid a late term abortion. And unfortunately you are partly correct. Two Catholic doctors apparently were too stupid to figure out a baby without a heartbeat and whose mother was seeping bloody and grotesque smelling embryonic fluid, was not alive.
Actually they pretended not to know it because they would rather that I die than to do an abortion. So they pretended it was normal to have a grotesquely smelling period at over 6 months and that there was no heartbeat or movement because the baby was turned away from the stethoscope and apparently was abnormally restfully asleep.
Because of those geniuses I nearly died. And because of at least one of them, my baby died in the 1st place because he refused to remove the Copper 7 IUD when I asked him to resulting in it perforating the amniotic sac. Because of him, I carried my dead baby for days, a baby I knew was dead, until I nearly died.
Dr. Tiller and those like him are all that stand between life and death for woman like me. My other two children have a mother because of a good friend and one courageous woman who cared as much about me as a person as most anti-abortionist care about me as an incubator.

What gross negligence, to allow you to go through all that! Heartbreaking... I'm glad you survived and were able to further care for your (I'm sure well-loved!) children.
I admit to having a biased interest in the abortion debate. My son's complicated pre-term birth (abnormal C-section at 24 weeks) has left me at an extremely high risk for uterine rupture to the point that my doctors have said a future pregnancy is inadvisable and very risky. Since I can't care for my disabled child while on a full bed-rest pregnancy, we've never tried to have any more kids. And really, never can. If my H's vasectomy fails, I'll need to terminate to avoid risking grave threat to my health.
I'm one of the lucky few though whose health insurance covers abortion services at any point in the pregnancy and for any reason needed. Very few women have the "privilege" of such complete health coverage in order to maintain their health and well-being. And it just should not be like that... Considering proper, legal, and appropriate health maintenance to be a privilege...

Tiller didn't do late term abortions on women who just couldn't make up their minds. That is against the law in Kansas. These were women with life threatening complications and fetuses who were dead or dying.

And as well you should. There probably isn't even *one* late-term pregnancy termination that is done out of casual choice. All late-term terminations are done because of severe risks to the mother and/or the non-viability of the fetus to survive. The late Dr. Tiller was one of the few doctors in the United States that was not only trained in the procedure, but would perform the procedure. Not one of Dr. Tiller's patience casually chose to "...make up their mind about it sooner rather than later." Dr. Tiller's death and the closing of his clinic is a monumental blow to ALL WOMEN'S HEALTH AND ALL WOMEN'S REPRODUCTIVE CHOICE.
Please, do not post again about his subject until you have educated yourself. Your ignorance in this matter does you a grave disservice.

From Ann Coulter: <<The official Web page of the ELCA instructs: "A developing life in the womb does not have an absolute right to be born." As long as we're deciding who does and doesn't have an "absolute right to be born," who's to say late-term abortionists have an "absolute right" to live? I wouldn't kill an abortionist myself, but I wouldn't want to impose my moral values on others. No one is for shooting abortionists. But how will criminalizing men making difficult, often tragic, decisions be an effective means of achieving the goal of reducing the shootings of abortionists? Following the moral precepts of liberals, I believe the correct position is: If you don't believe in shooting abortionists, then don't shoot one.>> http://news.yahoo.com/s/ucac/20090603/cm_ucac/49million... On edit: The woman hosting the afternoon show on the local Catholic radio station here in Omaha apparantly thought this was "very clever".

Here is my letter to the President:
~~~~~~~~~~ Last week an American hero, Dr. George Tiller, was assassinated by domestic terrorists who seek to end women's access to abortion and birth control. Now his family indicates that they will be closing his women's health facility permanently.
Mr. President, how many more physicians and and healthcare workers will have to be murdered in cold blood before you begin to take seriously the deadly threat that the Christian Taliban poses to Americans? Will we have to see a Columbine-style mass murder before you act? How many women will have to die before this country decides that it does NOT want to become another Afghanistan?
We are spending far too much time, money, and energy "fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here", when in fact THEY are here already and wreaking havoc.
It is past time to provide FULL federal protection to ALL women's health care facilities nationwide AND all abortion and birth control providers who wish for protection. You have seriously underestimated the determination and viciousness of the "anti-abortion" crowd, who in truth seeks to return us to the Dark Ages of the enslavement of women and stonings in the streets.
I thought you were a Democrat and a true supporter of women's rights. If I had known that you had as little spine as your pale blue colleagues, I would have voted for someone else. Please prove me wrong on that last count.
We also need FEDERAL PROTECTION of these clinics 24/7 -
Tiller was asking for increased protection due to increasing terrorism at the
clinic .... had they provided it Tiller may still be alive.
Additionally, Scott Roeder was a regular at "gluing locks" at one clinic -- he
was recognized there and on their film file and they had his license plate.
Kansas FBI didn't do much with the reports.
Yet, Roeder was at that clinic again the Saturday before he killed Dr. Tiller!!!
Within five minutes of his being at the clinic it was all reported AGAIN to the
Kansas FBI.
Looks like what we have really had here is a huge lack of investigation and following
of these "pro-life" terrorists!!
| 91. For all practical purposes, Roe V. Wade has been effectively repealed in many quarters. |
 |
The so-called 'non-crazy' element of the anti-choice movement have pursued a well-funded, smart, stealth campaign for years. The pro-choice movement was satisfied that the law was in place and so let the ball drop as a mass movement. There were always those still clued in to what was happening, but the general public was largely unaware of how effectively anti-choice organizations have been. They don't always use anything to do with abortion per se, they might impose zoning restrictions on the building that houses the clinic, for example. What this all has done is that in some states, often those states that need clinics the most desperately, Roe V. Wade is a mirage. There is ONE clinic to serve all of Mississippi, and the anti-choice forces are targeting them: "Hundreds of abortion-rights advocates and abortion opponents rallied in Jackson, Miss., on Sunday for the second day of a planned weeklong battle over attempts to shut down the state's last abortion clinic." http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2006-07-16-abortion... The only good thing that might come out of this tragedy is that people wake up to what's been happening for years.
Roe Vs. Wade is not a 'safe' bet. It's not enough. If your legislators aren't working on it now, they need to be passing STATE legislation protecting reproductive freedom. Fortunately Washington State got this done a while ago, RvW could evaporate overnight, and nothing would change for this State.
If your State doesn't have those protections, able to stand on their own, without RvW, get some. Now. Before it's too late.
