Protesters gather before funeral for slain doctor

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- Small groups of protesters and counter-protesters have gathered in Wichita, Kansas, for the funeral of slain abortion provider Dr. George Tiller.

The operator of an abortion clinic in Wichita was shot last Sunday at his own church.

Saturday's funeral event drew 17 demonstrators from Topeka's Westboro Baptist Church, known for picketing soldiers' funerals and declaring their deaths are punishment for U.S. tolerance of homosexuality.

The group's members also oppose abortion - one of their signs called it "bloody murder."

Their demonstration about 500 feet away from the church where the funeral was to be held also drew about a dozen counter-protesters, and members of both groups shouted back and forth at each other.

There was an old Hayduke trick I read about. Get a car, and drive a buddy slowly past the Phelps people. The buddy opens up the rear window and sticks out a long camera lens, appearing to take pictures of the protesters. If they start approaching the car, the lens pulls back and the driver takes off fast. That should make them good and paranoid, and no violence would occur.

The trick could be bolstered by having the counter-protesters bring cameras of their own and appear to take pictures of the Phelps mob and their cars.

I kid you not. I know first hand that they often let people know when and where they will be protesting, just in case they want to notify the press.

Do they want their cars and license plates photographed? Do they want people showing up at their compound taking pictures of the place? (Wearing camo clothes from the army surplus store, and hiding in bushes and running when you're seen, would be a good tactic for this.)

Then, track them as they leave their compound for food or gasoline or more magic markers for their "God Hates Fags" signs or whatever they do. Photograph them in the Piggly Wiggly. Make them REAL paranoid.

16. We had a family friend who was a Patriot Rider.

He died in a motorcycle accident, much too young. There was a huge honor guard of Patriot Riders at his funeral.

The Phelps family idiots were there. There were so many mourners and so many people on motorcycles that they could not get closer than a block away from the funeral. None of the local papers gave the Phelps fools any publicity. They did not mention them or print any pictures of them. I think that is the best way to handle them. Ignore them.
