Poll: Corzine still trailing Christie
Source: USA Today

Yet another poll shows former U.S. Attorney Chris Christie -- now the Republican nominee in the New Jersey governor's race -- handily knocking off Gov. Jon Corzine in the November election.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_2009/new_jersey/election_2009_new_jersey_governor">The Rasmussen Reports poll released today shows Christie defeating the incumbent Democrat 51% to 38%. That's a better margin for Christie since the http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_2009/new_jersey/nj_governor_christie_leads_corzine_by_nine">last Rasmussen survey, though pollsters note that Christie may be getting a temporary post-election boost in his numbers.

A majority of voters aren't too happy with how Corzine, the former head of Goldman Sachs, is leading the Garden State. About 58% of voters say they either strongly or somewhat disapprove of Corzine's job performance. And New Jerseyans also trust Christie over Corzine on tackling taxes, reining in spending and (not surprisingly) cracking down on corruption, according to the poll.

But how voters vote and what they predict is a bit different. About 43% polled expect Christie to win, while 41% see a Corzine victory.

Corzine began his tenure as Governor very badly, and has neglected to aggressively use basic public relations to undo that early damage. Anyone who thinks that a NJ is a solidly "blue state" doesn't know much about NJ.

11. True and he benefits from all the attacks by Lonegan on christie which were brutal
and they also caused Christie to take very very conservative stands.

These numbers are awful, but there has been a tendency for results in NJ to be more Democratic than the polling - and that was true in 2004, 2005, 2006 and I think 2008 (where I spent little time watching the numbers - as they weren't close.)

4. Chris Corleone Christie
has the Rove stink all over him. He violated Justice Department rules when he launched a bogus investigation into Senator Robert Menendez within 60 days of the election on Rove's orders. He was on the list of U.S. Attorneys to be fired until he did Rove's bidding.
He dropped charges against his brother for crimes he prosecuted against others. He gave Ashcroft a no bid contract to essentially waste taxpayer's money.
He looks like Robert Baccalieri, Jr. (Bobbie Bacala) from the Sopranos.

6. Yeah, but Corzine was once the head of a crime family himself.
Goldman Sachs. :puke:

5. Rasmussen cooks his numbers
The 2008 election is over. There should be no more polling.

10. Republican or not, they were dead-on for the 2008 election percentages.

That's Bush territory.

12. I think Corzine will pull this one out. He's a sharp customer and
I'm told he has a buck or two stashed away somewhere to run campaigns with...

13. I cross posted this in the NJ forum but it's worth looking at
http://www.bluejersey.com/showDiary.do;jsessionid=18798DFDB27AE4A3B169D0D92CAC88A1?diaryId=11518

I'm scared of this guy. He seems batshit crazy and along partisan lines. Corzine's not perfect (I wish he were primaried) but I just signed up to work on his campaign. We have a fight and need all hands on deck.

14. The last few elections (Pres, Sen and Gov) the polls showed it close
and the Dems won fairly easily.

That being said, Corzine is problematic. I wish he had faced a primary opponent

15. Ads
The Corzine campaign has released two new television ads, "Stand" and Congratulations," which they say will be run on cable stations across the state.
