Who know what kind of state one's mind would be in after days and days of that shit.

of course "suicided" is definitely possible as well...either is plausible.

6. State of Mind - indefinite detention
quoting from the article regarding suicides in 2006.

Human rights groups said the 2006 suicides reflected the men's despair over their indefinite detention without charges.

This prisoner had been there since 2002. I doubt very much he was "suicided" after all the years spent being "interrogated" there.
He had been part of the group who earlier had been on a hunger strike. He must have survived that due to "humane" intervention of FORCIBLY pushing a tube down his throat to feed.

Like Bush/Cheney, he will never get his day in court.

14. Was this your first run in with a politician?
Lots of things always change between candidate X and elected official X. That is the only change you can believe in and you can believe in it every election ever held.

4. Many of these detainees would love to die
Considering what their future holds. Many have attempted suicide, but the guards patrol something like every 5-10 minutes past each cell.

I would not be at all surprised if they start "allowing" these suicides.

No doubt this is Cheney's idea of the best solution.

Disgusting

5. Hmm...this would be a good way to get rid
of all the detainees we don't want out there talking to the press and all.

Yeah, have them commit suicide. Sounds like a plan. :sarcasm:

'His weight was down to about 86 pounds in December 2005. He weighed 124 pounds when he was first taken to Guantanamo in February 2002.'

Source: BBC

A Yemeni inmate at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp has died in an apparent suicide, US military officials say.

The man, named as Muhammad Ahmad Abdallah Salih, becomes the fifth person believed to have killed himself at the facility in Cuba.

He had been held there without charge since 2002 and was thought to have been taking part in a hunger strike.

Could he have heard about Cheney's remark that detainees who couldn't be placed would "have to be killed"?

16. Cheney said that? When? And how do you kill yourself in such a controlled facility?
I have a real hard time believing the deaths in Gitmo were suicides.

Three Guantanamo Bay Detainees Die of Apparent Suicide
By Sgt. Sara Wood, USA
American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, June 10, 2006 – Three detainees at U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, died of apparent suicides early this morning, military officials reported today.

Two Saudis and one Yemeni, all located in Camp 1 of the detention center, were found unresponsive and not breathing in their cells, Navy Rear Adm. Harry B. Harris, commander of Joint Task Force Guantanamo, said in a news conference. The first detainee was found shortly after midnight, and the other detainees were found within minutes, Harris said.

Medical teams responded quickly and all three detainees were provided immediate emergency medical treatment in attempts to revive them, Harris said. The three detainees were pronounced dead by a physician after all lifesaving measures had been exhausted, he said.

17. Call me when the officially sanitized government version of this story is released.
Until then, I can't form an apparent opinion on an apparent suicide.

Gitmo should have been closed long ago.
